It is said 3D has never been used this purposefully before as it enables marvelous depth perception and the illusion of close proximity to the dancers -- an experience a theater cannot deliver.

Apparently this is the 1st arthouse film shot in 3D. The website has some really interesting details and some behind-the-scenes footage. It was temporarily shelved when Pina unexpectedly died. Wenders was persuaded to complete it in tribute to her. More info -->http://www.pina-film.de/en/
