Nightline: Atheists vs. Christians: Does God Exist?

That went dead. Here is another link, but only the first two parts.

This video kinda pisses me off. While I agree with the overall message, I don't care for the delivery with it's shitty sound, cheesy, unreadable, overlaid text, and the mocking tone of that text. Make your point but do it with some class.

grspec, this is actually just an amateur video of the debate. it was hosted by nightline and i think it airs tonight, so if i get my hands on it (the professional production) before someone else sifts it, i'll update this video with the new embed. i agree the production quality is crap, but like mdh said, good to see those two put in their place.

Don't me get me wrong aaronfr, I'm not doggin your video, just they guys that made it. I agree with what they have to say, I just don't dig the tone of the video. I think there are ways to present your argument without trying to make fun of the other side. In the end it does more harm than good.

the mention of ochams razor is a really old and problematic argument. I remember watching the Jodie Foster movie where its mentioned. It's a precept, and has more to do with common sense than science (the two being sometimes in opposition - quantum mechanics)

wikipedia
Kant felt a need to moderate the effects of Occam's razor and thus created his own counter-razor: "The variety of beings should not rashly be diminished."

"beings" here means , in philosophical terminology, an entity, a thing, anything that can be said to be (to exist)

manadrensays...

I could only watch this video about halfway. I really hope this is not a televised debate on a major television network. The arguments on both sides aren't particularly well formed or compelling. I feel like I'm watching a high school debate team. Occam's razor wasn't really a good place to go either. It been used throughout history on both sides of the argument.

i dont like the crowed atitudes and the woman is a right bitch and it seems she is just out to make herself feal better rather than to prove ore disprove annything. however would you have interlectual respect for sumone who constantly sead gibbons created the universe. you probably wouldent evan talk to them unless thay could construct a logical ratoinal argument. the problem the christains in this cannot evan provide a logical argument and are compleat morons every rubutal thay have is compleat nonsense. its probably more likely than not that interlectual christains think that thay are uterly retarded.

What it is funny is that they are not talking about God they are talking about cristianity's version of God. Not only this is unrespectfull to every exiting religion in the world (including the ones with n Gods) but also unrespectfull with all the religions that they ever were. Such whatever the aztecs belief, etc.

Why should they even try to explain the existence of the one thing that they said not one can really understand.

The fact that we are still talking about religion is a very sad thing indeed. Is speak volumens on how unevolved and stupid human still are. Yet... I like stupidity as it makes ones life simplier and happy. :-)

I agree with peoples comments... This is dealt with really poorly. I can't believe he is still pushing that can/banana crap.

You are actually giving credence to something that Martin Bashir made? This guy only works to create pieces of yellow sensationalized journalism. The more shocking and stupid it is the better. ABC hired him only after the Micheal Jackson fiasco. This debate is framed in the most immature way possible.

Kelly has big tits by the way. I wonder why she actually dressed up that way it seems so gauche for such an event.

rickegeesays...

Ray Comfort v. "Kelly" moderated by the lovely Martin Bashir - A clash of intellectual titans to be sure. . .

Why doesn't Nightline, which was at one point in its history a serious television show, get Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Franklin Graham, Richard Swinburne, or Elaine Pagels and have an actual debate?

Oh wait . . .it is a Martin Bashir special . . .how about R. Kelly, OJ Simpson, and Michael Jackson then?

sigh . . .this whole thing gives belief (either in rationalism or in magic) a bad name. Downvote for the poor vid quality and the disgusting fall of Nightline.

silvercordsays...

Someone please explain to me why they show a guy trying to smack around another guy and then the moderator asks, "to what extent are you provoking that reaction?" Was that a non-sequiter or was it one of the interviewees being smacked?

Second, what the dude from the atheist side did in the car . . . that's not the unforgivable sin Jesus refers to in the Bible; just in case, you know, that was what he was trying to do.
