Guess teh interwebs are good for something, huh. I feel only a little proud at myself for upvoting that video both here and on Reddit.

The attitude that "my upvotes caused justice to happen" troubles me. I have a lot of respect for anyone who called up the appropriate police department, or local press, and demanded an investigation. But an upvote is essentially just asking other random people to look at it, with the vague hope that one of them might do something useful.

Word of mouth via link sharing is powerful. Like a virus, one need only act as a conduit to continue the flow of information. Upvotes sifted it to the top, and when it went to the top visibility increased. Then -- BOOM -- critical mass. Don't take your role lightly. Just because you didn't score the goal, doesn't mean we don't recognize your assist.

Is there something in the rest of the video that shows how this started? I've been threatened with a gun once... and it was by a guy who was considered "mentally challenged" but that description isn't quite right, most people would have called him "bat-shit insane".

If they're just pounding on some guy for the hell of it, then these pricks need to spend some time behind bars. If there is something more to it that instigated things, then they should probably still spend some time behind bars... just a bit less.
