National Defense Authorization Act -- TYT

YouTube Description:

A provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (which passed unanimously in the Senate) allows the military to detain terrorism suspects, including American citizens, indefinitely with no real trial. Cenk Uygur breaks it down on The Young Turks.

It up to you now--Mr. President.

That 2nd quote from Hutson is nonsense - America chose to pursue this 'war', America's politicians did this to their country, it has nothing to do with Al-Qaeda forcing them to do anything. While the law demonstrates complete cowardice by the house/senate you guys have been locking up pretty much anyone you deem a 'terrorist' for a while now, it's a little unfair to give lesser rights to others, that's the same sort of decision process that leads to slavery, apartheid etc.

I think the essence of the problem is that America is not actually fighting any wars, they are simply involved in aggressive behavior to allow extraction of various countries resources - people think these laws are necessary because they think the country is 'at war' but they are being lied to and fed propaganda. Because the country is not truly at war, this continuing destruction of your Constitution is bogus to begin with.

BTW, didn't pass unanimously according to Wiki, "The bill passed with 93 'yea' votes to 7 'nay'. Wiki also says the text was revised and faces another join house vote tomorrow. Pretty scary this one, even if 7 of them said nay, that is still 93% of our Senate that is basically crazy...thems not good odds.

They aren't hopeful of a veto. C4L can be a little reactionary and overly critical, but in this case, better safe than sorry. Start contacting Senators pronto, you would be amazed how much it helps.

I think the big issue is that, now that Americans are waking up and realizing how "free" they actually are, the powers that be are acting quickly to cement their position at the top.

It brings to mind the rise and fall of the Roman Empire; the Republic was no more but Augustus let the people believe their votes meant something, let them think the republic still functioned until, after generations, the emperors were too entrenched to be removed without violence.

It may not be too late for America, but it's following a similar course.

Indeed, though, once you had Emperors at all, the dream of Rome was dead really. Most of the history of Rome that is lauded over was in the years of the Emperors; which means our death throws might be longer than one would expect.

Man... I've been trying to move out of the US for over 5 years now. It's damn hard to find a job that will take a person, even a technical, professionally trained one. At what point does the slippery slope become recognized as the gaping void of free fall?

So much horseshit, that if it were compiled virtually into a virtual Universe like ours in mere seconds it would suddenly implode from the horrendous amount of mass gain, leaving only a black hole behind--I would applaud as we collapse.

Second, as Cenk brings up, it's very nice indeed that no one ever bothers to mess around with the Pentagon or in it's entirety the military budget, except for a few canceled plane programs replaced by another tactical trident nuclear submarine, etc... It blows my mind that we as a people in America are fine spending unlimited resources, even into debt, to pay for death, killing, destruction, hatred, bad reputation--military and citizens/tourists, torture, Guantanamo (non-POW camp), illegal actions (politically motivated sometimes, soon it may be at home, other times it's not and you end up with...), Abu Ghraib Prison (soldiers obeying orders or not, it's hard to tell), etc...

Yet you bother to ask people to join together to pay for the humanities of our country, like the sciences (why do we use telescopes at 26 million dollars per year, it's a waste of money--IT DOES NOTHING--same with NASA, worthless), education (well my kids are not being taught the right things anyway so I might as well keep them at home), and the biggest black sheep: universal health-care (why should I pay for someone else's sickness, are they going to give me a random check when I'm not sick for a long time as a reward--it totally doesn't make sense; plus, I'm not paying for abortions, drug abuse, and all those liars that are not sick and abuse the system...)...

We are willing to pay for free and in fact reach into our wallets and give them ten more dollars each for killing each other, but just to simply provide health-care for all and be our brother's keeper, even 10 cents a day is too much.

The United States of America IS DYING and both political parties are just fine with it--in fact they are helping every day......

/Disgusted is where I'm at mentally; boiling with rage.

^ What kceaton1 said.

I've had it. I will write in candidates for all Dem incumbents. Repugs will never get my vote, but I've absolutely had it with this phony, silver-tongued COWARD of a President and his entire cast of enablers. The Nobel committee must be feeling pretty fucking foolish by now. Obama, you are a piece of shit! I'll be writing in "Phil McKracken" for president next year (or Elizabeth Warren).

I guess it might surprise some people that it doesn't help at all...?
I essentially got laughed at the last time I contacted any of my reps.

Depressing, I didn't get such a negative response because of the windfall of calls the preceded mine.

Remember how the 9/11 attacks were first spun as an "attack on our freedom" because "terrorists hate freedom"? Not that I ever bought that line, but that retired guy is sure making a good point about removing freedoms.
