kir_mokumsays...fuck, they do some dumb shit on that show.
Xaielaosays...chances are if the video that makes such a claim doesn't actually show the speakers in action, they are lying through their teeth.
siftbotsays...Moving this video to rasch187's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
rasch187says...*beg
siftbotsays...Sending this video to Beggar's Canyon to plea for a little attention - beg requested by original submitter rasch187.
youdiejoesays...I was just thinking tonight about the time I built a pair of speaker using cardboard boxes and a couple of full range cones.
dgandhisays...$10 plug? IIRC this show is shot near SF, which means he could have headed over to 16th/Mission (it's even got a BART station) and picked up stereo-miniplug jumpers (two plugs) for $1 at no fewer than 2 dollar stores that sit at that intersection. So I've got problems with their information to start.
Secondly, this myth is bustable on paper. A cone speaker requires, at minimum, three things: coil, cone, magnet. If we assume that the penny is somehow functioning as a coil (major stretch) and that the foil is acting as a cone (it lacks sufficient rigidity), we still need something for the coil to resist against, and their is nothing else magnetically reactive in the "speaker".
If this was an attempt to "prove" that it didn't work, then they need to pull out an amp (that they don't mind destroying) and run some juice through it, battery powered CD player, not even a real test.
jatohasays...I bet 'household hacker' is pretty psyched that his youtube video made it all the way to mythbusters!
antsays...Haha, Tory cracks me up!

A lot of the myths they test are bustable on paper (or common sense), but people don't believe in paper (or common sence) and need to see if for themselves.
