KnivesOutsays...Well spoken arguments, and pretty respectful on all sides. Interesting take on the illegality, that it was for racist reasons. I haven't that before.
Legalize it!
garmachisays...I hate the format of this show. Six to eight talking heads, talking as quickly as they can, barely stopping to breathe, because they know they risk interruption at any sign of pause, while streams of numbers fly across the bottom of the screen. The producers can't even let people just talk, they squeeze their image into a little box, and whoosh it to the side of the screen so that they can cram in more images or video barely related to the speakers comments. Is this the cause or effect of our terribly short attention spans? God, it's so awful it makes me want to light up.

Southern white-supremacist senators, congressmen and law enforcement pushed for criminalization to drive out the Mexican population by taking away their biggest cash crops, and tossing the perps in jail.
The propoganda from Harry Anslinger in the 20s and 30s pushed ideas that "negros" high on marijuana were impervious to .32 caliber bullets. Also, they attacked the jazz scene in New Orleans warning that whites and blacks were dancing in "teahouses" together to their crazy jungle music, and these scary black reefer smokers were coming to get your wife next!
“When some beet field peon takes a few traces of this stuff… he thinks he has just been elected president of Mexico, so he starts out to execute all his political enemies..All Mexicans are crazy, and this stuff [marijuana] is what makes them crazy.”
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
You know, I'm actually starting to think we might see a repeal of prohibition of marijuana.
I wonder if the tobacco industry will jump into this fray. Seems like they would - it would be a way to escape the downward spiral of tobacco consumption. (in the US at least).
peggedbeasays...um... for the record i dont now of ANY health professionals who think marajuana should be illegal. and i know of ALOT of health professionals.
oh and here are some observations from my ER:
alcohol related accidents/injuries: average 15-20 per 12 hour shift
marajuana related accidents/injuries: ive seen 1 in 7 years
gang related accidents/injuries: (we can presume that gang violence would take a marked down turn if prohibition were repealed) average 5-6 week
dooglesays...WHOA
@4:32 - that is WAY too many talking heads there. Not even the Brady Bunch could get along talking like that, they had to be introduced one at a time, and TO A SONG.
WAY too many.
thehelixsays...It's only a matter of time until it is finally legalized. Hopefully we can do it now for economic reasons and let the people who think it will destroy our morals discover over time that their full of shit.
At the very least, can we at least legalize hemp? It's a fantastic multi-use sustainable and renewable product.
rougysays...So the guy against legalization was from Little Rock, Arkansas?
Ooooo-kay.
And he considers marijuana a hard drug?
Ooooo-kay.
