Juan Rodriguez, 41, was appearing before Judge Beatrice Butchko on an attempted first-degree murder charge when he repeatedly threatened to kill her.
Rodriguez suffers from a mental illness and lives in an assisted-living facility called Grand Court Lakes. Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Miami police said the 6-foot-tall, 225-pound man took a large Bowie hunting knife from his belt and, for no apparent reason, stabbed a nursing assistant in the back.
The nursing assistant, 41-year-old Nadine Clark-Morris, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she was listed in good condition Wednesday.
Management at Grand Court Lakes declined to talk about the attack, and so did Clark-Morris' family.
But Rodriguez had plenty to say to the judge.
During Rodriguez's tirade, Butchko kept her head down and did not engage him. She continued the proceedings although he continued to threaten her life.
Rodriguez is being held in the Miami-Dade County Jail without bond.

brycewi19says...She was calm, cool, and collected. I wouldn't have been.
Good on ya, madame judge!
BoneRemakesays...neat. it didnt even ask me if I wanted to confirm down voting it.
EMPIREsays...She did what anyone should have done in that situation. The man is mentally ill. There's no point in engaging him, or even give him a harsher sentence for it..
He's sick, and it's probably not his fault that he is.
Rawheadsays...why would you want to vote something like this down?
I just don't get it at all.
Please explain.
I'm really not trying to start a fight, i'm just curious as to why.

shagen454says...Yeah if a video fits with the rules of the site there should really only be no voting or up voting. I mean it is democratic that we can downvote and all... but for the most part there is no need.
