spoco2Man, now they're really starting to sound like grumpy old men.
), so maybe it's a case of those places needing to appeal more to the 'older' crowd, the 'discerning' buyer, make themselves feel more premium so that you're buying the experience of 'good' food over shit.
The car thing, actually saying that cars ran better in the 70s is such complete bullshit. The efficiency of cars now is just off the scale in comparison. Cars with FAR smaller engines are getting MUCH more power and better fuel economy than cars back then. So that's a serious case of rose fricken tinted glasses. Parts in cars are SUPPOSED to be getting lighter, you don't want your car to be heavy, that just uses more darn fuel.
Don't get me wrong I agree with a lot of what's being said, but he's talking with a couple of sycophants here who don't question anything he's saying and are fawning over him.
I am well and truly on their side in regards to quality food/clothing/whatever places being under supported in favour of shit chain stores... and I think that it's something that I have come to appreciate more as I've got older (I'm just sooo old at 34
In any case when it comes to food and coffee it's nowhere near as dire as they paint it here in Melbourne, and I would bet it's not actually as bad as they paint in most cities.
HenningKOPart 3 made me LOL (at the identical teens at subway), so part 3 gets mah vote.

Man, now they're really starting to sound like grumpy old men.

He's not complaining that the part is lighter, but that is more frail, and that in the 60's car parts were built to last, and now they are just mass-produced lightweight stuff that breaks and you need to replace it. Sure he's rose-tinting here and there, but theres a core of truth to it as well.
EDIT: Nor did they say that cars ran better in the 70's but that you could pop the hood and fix it on the road by just banging on a starter or whatever. Todays cars are far to complex for an average guy to have a shot at getting a broken-down car up and running again, and besides, even if you fucking designed the car yourself, you'd likely be helpless without a debugging laptop and a surrounding garage full of special tools.
spoco2@BicycleRepairMan No, I understand his basic premise, but when they start whinging about picking up a part and it being light as if that in and of itself is a bad thing, which, of course, it is not, it is a hugely beneficial thing.
It's that kind of simplistic whinging which gives me the shits.
