I came across this video in youtube, but couldn't make out why he was apologizing. Thanks for the explaination

"Yamamoto had also belonged to the Ibaraki Golden Golds baseball team led by comedian Kinichi Hagimoto. Since the incident in Hakodate occurred while the baseball team was on a trip, Hagimoto announced on Wednesday that he intended to quit baseball and disband the team.

"Although I love baseball, I've decided to give it up," he said. The shock announcement sent waves through baseball circles in Japan."

Apparantly the guy who did this rape act owned and played for a baseball team, thus the reason its in the Baseball news section.

Japanese apologizing is never understated or subtle.
