John Stossel: Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity (43min)

John Stossel from 20/20 talks about misconceptions regarding capitalism, government, and regulation. Basically, he says capitalism is better than big government and more regulation and mentions how common beliefs can easily be incorrect. In other words, "Practice before ideal."

Stossel is a liar and a hypocrite. What a fake douchebag. He's a regular paid speaker for Young Republicans, and involved with many other "thinktanks".

Isn't there better video of him being punched in the face? I enjoy that more. He's full of lies, myth-spinning and stupidity.

I'm not a big fan of Stossel.

In my opinion, his criticisms of big government, the welfare state, and regulation are misplaced. His opinions on global warming are also distasteful.

Stossel is a Libertarian, and I haven't got much time for libertarianism because it is too idealistic. It's ideal before practice not practice before ideal. If experience teaches us anything it is that we need a mix between free-market and welfare state. I'm sick of listening to libertarians winge about the sins committed by politicians against the free market. The simple fact is that regulation is essential in order to ensure that market extremes do not occur. De-regulation in many countries has led to a widening of the income gap between the rich and the poor. De-regulation may lead to a booming economy, but it has negative social impacts, which will in the long run effect the economy.

A welfare state is also essential. Living in Britain I know that no matter what my economic status is I am guaranteed a very high standard of health care. To me this is a basic right - one which could never be provided universally by the private sector. Most foreign observers look at America and find the level and quality of free public health care to be appalling. If I am ill I walk into a hospital, or a doctors practice, and the first thing they ask me is 'what's wrong with you?'. In the States they ask you how you're going to pay. If I travel to the States i have to pay twice as much medical insurance as for anywhere else in the world. This is just wrong.

Up-vote for potential discussion - not for Stossel

That title is unintentionally perfect.
Stossel's an ideologue, a hypocrite, and a joke of a "journalist".

Ever notice you hear from a lot more "libertarians" when things get especially embarrassing for the Republicans?
