Jay Leno Upset about the Paris Hilton Coverage

I agree with his frustration

While I do agree that this is receiving far too much coverage, there is a point to it all. I personally don't like to get caught up in the whole idea of Paris Hilton. What does interest me about this topic is what she represents. I think for a lot of people, what's frustrating is seeing a wealthy and privileged person essentially use a get out of jail free card. I don't think that's right and unfortunately for Paris she has brought so much attention upon herself throughout the years, she shouldn't be "shocked and surprised" at the media coverage.

There are people who are obsessed with celebrities in general (which I don't get). Then there are people who were outraged when they witnessed, publicly, a privileged individual get special treatment, where otherwise an average person wouldn't.

I'm so glad I dropped out of main stream media "news" viewership. I (happily) did not know how bad the coverage was until i saw this video on the sift and I'm still not sure what she did (and I'm glad i don't know). Google news and the right filters rule!!

surprise surprise, jay leno defending a celebrity while simultaneously being oblivious to the deeper social meaning of the news coverage.

If you guys hadn't noticed, things aren't going so well in Iraq, and people are tired of being reminded how stupid they are so it is much more entertaining laughing at someone else.

I actually laugh at the whole situation, not just Paris, but also the people freaking out as if they expected any different from news networks. The line between the gossip mags and the news networks has been blurred for so long it's actually funny that people only have an issue with it when it is as overt as the Paris Hilton saga.

it isn't even an abuse of money and power. It's a rich girl getting unusually HARSH treatment. So what. The only reason that she makes such great news is that she is slightly interesting to just about everyone, but it's a shame that our news networks are sacrificing real material for this popular gossip.

You can pretend to not care, but all 'significant' news has to deal with either death or money. Paris is someone with a lot of money, which makes her important whether you like it or not. So now we have this shining example of the 'American Dream' being tortured over minor legal violations. What does that say to the rest of America? "Watch your asses when you're driving or Uncle Sam will rape you of your rights just like this!"

Rape your rights just like paris hilton or having a true news media stripped from the people? Hopefully that question is obviously rhetorical.
