The background to this is that the gig was a series of comics but on the day the Philly crowd was booing them and generally being complete tossers.

Burr finally comes on and just starts going at them. If I recall correctly he stated it was "like Apocalypse Now" out there but by the end he's actually won them round.

Yes it's unfortunate the video is not of the highest quality. Sometimes that happens. But context is everything which is why I added that.

He is simply not just being abusive. He's actually being very funny, coming up with spontaneous riffs on the city's sporting culture, insulting them in crude yet creative ways and then throwing in a non sequitur towards the end, which is a staple of comedy.

Everyone who has ever heard this realises what a talent Burr is and an underappreciated one at that. This certainly cemented his growing reputation at the time with standup fans and fellow comedians (this was in 2006, prior to that from 2001-2005 he was as he has put it "killing in obscurity". And every single Burr clip on the sift will prove that.

Now if you don't think Burr is funny, fair enough but please don't get on your high horse when you make a comment.

You can go blue in the face ranting about the size of the stadium shows he used to do, but none of it is ever good comedy. It's not. He's not top ten of all time in any terms of 'good comedy'. It's all base, all simplistic, none of it is good. He's just not funny.

Now, me not finding him funny doesn't make him not so to many, but he is also not top ten of talent in anything.

I'm not 'speaking for the sift' except to say 'I don't get how you can be surprised by this average video not getting much love here'... it hasn't. It's over two and a half years old, has had almost 1.5K views, and yet has 20 votes.

If you say so. I've just listened to 10 minutes of it, and that was a friggen struggle. It's such inane, juvenile shit. It's high school humour, and crap at that.

You find it funny. Fair enough. But none of that is clever, witty or insightful. It's all 'Say something dirty for a laugh', 'say something obnoxious about women'...

I listened to it again after posting the link. I'll admit it was not as funny to me this time around. I do think it contains bits of brilliance, but yeah, comedy is hard to pin down, and it looks like eight-years-ago me and present-day-me can't even agree about this one.
