Shame about the violence and waste but I can't side with the protesters this time. As I understand it, the Israeli colonies have been aggressively deployed in a design to increasingly divide and inhibit travel between the Palestinian territories. It seems that the protesters are less progressive and more religious nationalists.

lesserfool is absolutely right. These settlements ("Hit'nachaluyot", as they're called in hebrew, which doesn't quite have the benign meaning "settlement" has) aren't built by the government, don't have any permits and are only there to say "this land is ours".

Yes, we have our religious wackos. Sadly enough, they have enough power in the government to make any evacuation move against them fail after a while.

This footage is probably from February 2006, when the settlement had about 30 families living in it. There are quite alot more than 30 families protesting there.

Imagine if these were Palestinians in their homes their families have lived in for a hundred years... The police (well IDF) would have been much more brutal.

They didn't even use CN gas to clear the area.. Or other munitions the US has sold them like concussion grenades and other weapons. It's funny the different treatment they give to actual criminals instead of Palestinians who are just treated much worse than this.
