siftbotTags changed from "rescue" to "rescue, high rise, fire escape, external" by gold star member lucky760.
marinaraNow if Israel builds a giant flyswatter that mounts on the side of skyscrapers, we would have a good solution to state sponsored terrorism.
garshSo, what makes this better than an elevator?
chiboukigarsh,
because it's outside??
internal elevators can get filled with smoke, or stop working altogether when they cut down electricity. That's just 2 reasons why it's better, there's probably half a dozen more.
yoghurtRead about this in the NYT a few months back:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/12/nyregion/12escape.html?ex=1297400400&en=b2b4c651898c3abb&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
joedirtDeerrr.. It looks like this "better than an elevator" also works on electricty. But, they might have a backup generator you say. Well why can the elevator have a backup generator.
So, if you can't exit through the fire stairs.. this will save a whole 8 people per floor if you happen to be on one of the five floors it visits in the speedy 10 mins it takes to make one load. Brilliant!!
joedirtFYI, the reason you don't use elevators in a fire is because of the chimney effect, plus during a fire, too many asshats would stand there waiting for an elevator to come, and if one did, they would all pile in as if their lives depended on it.. Then you would be in one stuck elevator in the middle of a burning building.
SagemindI like the drumming. It makes it very official!
dannym3141Lot of criticism for this. Shit - you take the elevator then, i'll take this bad boy.
