How to pull a van uphill by yourself with ordinary rope.

In case you find yourself needing to single-handedly pull your van up a moderate incline and have only a length of rope, here's how you could do it.

The mechanical advantage would have been much higher if he had tied the rope to the lamp post, pulled the rope taut and stepped on it. Then he could re-tension the rope and repeat. Having two ropes and alternating, would keep the van from rolling backward, if that was a concern.

Am I missing something, or could he have just pulled a small length back through the "loop" instead of feeding the whole rest of the rope through?

i would upvote, but my hopes of seeing the rope snap and getting to watch a dude jump head first through a SUV window as he rolls to a horrible crash, were dashed. boo !
