BicycleRepairMansays...I think most scandiavians say "leenooks" with the u pronounced as the e in "news" How do you pronounce it in english "Lie nux"?
In most scandinavian languages "I" is pronounced "e" and not "ai". Confusingly, y is pronunced almost the same, but with a trout-mouth instead of a smilie-mouth for "i"
TheFreaksays...See, that's how I pronounced it, "Lee-nooks". Because Linus in Finnish is "Lee-noos". And probably because I was living in Sweden when I first encountered Linux.
But I suppose as far as Linus Torvalds is concerned the more common pronunciation of "Lin-ucks" is correct.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...linucks - sounds like it looks.
TheFreaksays...>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:
linucks - sounds like it looks.
Yeah, but if you pronounce it the way it looks in Finland it would be "Lee-nooks". Or, I guess "Lee-noaks"
And it was developed in finland and named after the developer.
Oh well, moot point now.
"Lin-nucks"
blankfistsays...It's the way I've always pronounced it.
pho3n1xsays...I thought it was partly named after Linus and partly made to be a combination of the words "Little" and "Unix", being pronounced as such. *shrug*
Tymbrwulfsays...The only people who would pronouce this as "leenoox" are foreigners and uber nerds who realized Linus is from Finland
