How Hip Hop Is Made

Ryan Leslie takes a hip-hop track from soup to nuts

upvote for taking us through a small part of the process. I would downvote for the crappy dime-a-dozen "I have money, therefore I am cool" track. Seriously, why the hell do rappers insist on putting out nothing but "look at how successful I am" songs anymore? Whatever happened to substance or message.

hip-pop with no substance makes Homer something something.

pretty nice composition .. but what the fuck is the point of this? it was interesting at first but then it turns into this weird vanity display of some dickhead dancing in front of his buddy's video camera.. "ooh check out my centurion card ... ooh look, im ordering a trumpet and yeah its TINY " this is lame and definitely not anything substantial .. its nice for second because he makes a clever song, BUT, who the fuck is this guy really? this sounds like a b-side to a Dru Hill record.. ugh. we need to start sifting better hiphop videos.

ooh and by the way, that centurion card he showed off was a 'business' blackcard and not at difficult to get. He is definitely not the owner. Its most likely a company card given to him by the recording company. Which is commonly given as an expense account since it has the best benefits within a corporation ( Hes signed with Universal). So even the asshole $70,000 a year agent's assistant has a 'black' card. He would have to be personally spending at least quarter million dollars a year to be a true owner of a black card, and by the looks of it, he's not getting anywhere near that.
