WKBsays...Old news, but wow, that has to be one of the best political take downs of all time.
WaterDwellersays...1984 is her favourite book. I think I'll go to audible.com.
bamdrewsays...Doesn't really describe it well; former Sen. Santorum said very anti-gay things, and Dan Savage was tired of how these things would come out in the media and then be forgotten a month later,... so he started a contest from his sex column (I used to read it at The Onion's AV section) where people could send in possible dirty things (preferably related to sex) that don't have a name and he would pick a winner which would be dubbed 'santorum' to immortalize the fact that Rick Santorum is an asshole.
Stormsingersays...I remember the contest, but I had no idea it was Dan Savage's idea. Nor did I have a clue who Dan Savage was, at that time. Just one more reason to love the guy...
messengersays...Almost.
Dan Savage didn't invent it. None of it was his idea at all, and he has repeatedly acknowledged this. The idea of attaching the name Santorum to something sex-related came from a reader. He liked the idea, and turned it into a contest. Other readers supplied the definitions of what they thought it should mean. Then they all voted on the winner. Dan facilitated and promoted the whole thing, but supplied none of the creativity. (edit: Actually, I think it was even the reader's suggestion to make it a contest)>> ^Stormsinger:

bamdrewsays...I stand corrected! (though a citation would be nice)

ObsidianStormsays...Wow. Leads to such ambiguous phrases as, "I gotta get this santorum off my dick..."
messengersays...Wish I could. I was a regular reader in hard copy and have no idea which issues he said it in. If you're interested in digging, It'd be more easily found at http://www.spreadingsantorum.com than at the Savage Love site.>> ^bamdrew:
