sfjockosays..."This is a documentary made by a french team (not sure who exactly) specifically highlighting WWASPS programs, focusing ... all » on Tranquility Bay but still covering all of them, and the whole industry of similar places (estimated to be roughly a thousand in number) around the USA.
It features video of children tied up in dog kennels in "High Impact" which used to be in mexico, but is thankfully now closed, a secret video of a girl whose clearly broken (if not brainwashed) still in tranquility bay, and an interview of a teenager who was in various WWASPS programs from 12-15 (19 at the time of the interview) who looked as shell shocked as a war veteran.
Its informative, shocking, and something every american should see - a thousand gulags for our children, teenagers and young adults is NOT something anyone should tolerate, and its a good crash course in our "behavior modification" industry. However, unfortunately, the video only glosses over the "seminars" and how they are used to effectively brainwash the people in those programs, and their families."
James Roesays...hey,
sfjocko check the blog for some info on your question. :-P
James Roesays...Also, one of my friends went to one of these after some horrible choices in high school. He was completely different when he came back. I mean COMPLETELY. They told his mom that he would have access to jet skis, etc... He never really told me exactly what happened to him there, and we are no longer friends.
dotdudesays...I taught a student who had escaped a boot camp. He was a freshman in high school. The first time in my art class he was extremely nervous.
daphnesays...That breaks my heart. And sickens me. How long before we stop letting good old boys buy the freedom to do whatever they want while denying others their basic human rights?
What's wrong with us?
sfjockosays...daphne- did a little bit of surfing, check out this link to the WWASPS page on this site.

The site, Wayward Web Fora , is described:
"These are open and, for the most part, unmoderated forums, primarily dealing with the Troubed Teen industry, with a couple of lifestyle/general interest topics into the mix."
(Forums? Fora? Forums? Fora?; I prefer "fora" as the plural of "forum" because it's closer in form to the latin, and it's cooler. Interesting they use both)
daphnesays...Thanks for the link, sfjocko...the forum (fora?) was shockingly informative. I did some Googling myself, and I went into the WWASP sites to see what it would be like for a parent to coming in. Oh, MAN. What a bunch of slick BS. How can a parent not see through this??
My concern is for the kids who were sexually abused. I was talking with a friend this morning about it (she works with victimized children) and she said that it is a common to turn the blame around to the kid...which is why a lot of this stuff is allowed to go on.
Abuse never ever ever goes away for the victim...it sends shockwaves throughout the rest of their life. If they are lucky, they can learn coping skills to help them handle the reverberations...but a lot of victims aren't.
One quarter of our population has been sexually abused...that's ONE in FOUR people you meet. How can we let this continue? How can we let programs like WWASP to continue?
Ok...I'm off the old soapbox.
sfjockosays...Looks like this has been taken offline.
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Lame, discarding. If it ever comes back let us know, and we'll reactivate.
