Homeworld 2 Intro movie along with Hyperspace core transfer cut scene made me think of certain relations to Battle Star Galactica? This is the plot of Homeworld 2 with some additions by me...
The game begins with the commissioning of a new Mothership, the Pride of Hiigara (The Battle Star is being decommissioned as a museum piece). After an emergency evacuation in the face of the Vaygr onslaught (The Cylons attacked the 13 colonies and only the Battle Star escaped).
The Mothership, which now represents the last hope of the Hiigaran people for continued life or independence, begins to take the war to the Vaygr (The Battlestar Galactica with the colony ships who escaped represent the last humans alive being countdown each episode).
The Bentusi (Mystics? Fleet Command?) inform them that their only hope is to find Balcora Gate (Eye of Jupiter? Path to Earth?), a location left by the Progenitors (Original humans?) and holding the keys to stopping either the Vaygr threat, the End Times, or both (Earth or ending Cyclon threat).

Farhad2000says...1:37 - 1:50 - A young woman lead them across the Galaxy, and it is she who will lead them again, her name is Karin Sujet. This is the story of the end times.
Kara Thrace is leading the Fleet in finding the path of Earth while at the same time, the warning is given to her - "You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end."
I know it's a long shot but any excuse for you people to watch intro to one of the best space based strategy games ever released is good enough for me. It's curious to me that the music matches the style BSG uses as well.
MarineGunrocksays...Looks like I'll have to pick a copy up, starting with Homeworld of course.
8756says...That's exactly what i've thought when i've seen the BSG remake for the first time. Especially concerning the musical ambiance (kind of oriental) and, of course, the story.
BTW, the design of the "Pride of Higara" and the initial Kushan mothership are very unique.
Ok, let's re-install this neat game to see how fluid it is on my quad core + geforce 8600
dystopianfuturetodaysays...BSG also shares many similarities to Robotech/Macross.
Lolthiensays...Dear god in Heaven.. Homeworld and Homeworld two are two of the most groundbreaking PC games I've played in my 20 years of playing games. Upvote for Homeworld and Homeworld 2... also for Homeworld: Cataclysm. Probably one of the top ten expansions released for a PC game.
I've always made this same connection, but no one ever knew what I was talking about. You are my new best internet friend of the day.
Farhad2000says...Homeworld has been modded to perfection. Start your journey here. I highly recommend The Complex Mod.
There is even a Battle Star Galactica mod.
Furthermore THQ which owns Relic recently acquired the rights to Homeworld from Vivendi. We might see Homeworld 3 sometime in the future.
swampgirlsays...The Homeworld games and Rome Total War have taken more hours of my husband's attention than all other activities combined.. maybe work included.
(I remind him of this when he's teasing me about my sifting habit )
honkeytonk73says...Dune anyone? Even the names sound Dune-like.
Wonderbreadsays...Campbell Lane, the guy who voiced the Bentusi, also appeared in Battlestar Galactica: Razor as the First Hybrid.
gorgonheapsays...Geez, even Tolken would have trouble following this plot, the Gara of Tamiot 7 seeks the destruction of all Milfists.
Ryjkyjsays...Gotta love Sierra. I still play the original Tribes when I get the chance.

I'm thinking Homeworld was inspired by the original BSG, since Homeworld was released before the new BSG series started.
The story of the original is very BSG-like, where invaders kill everyone on the planet you're from, but 50,000 or so people escape on a giant ship, to go look for their original Homeworld, which they'd only recently found out about...
Homeworld 2 is more of a quest to go find the ancient supership/weapon to defend the Homeworld you found in the first game.
syncronsays...In all fairness, Battlestar Galactica came first.

I may have to as well.
But uh.. A quad core and that vintage gpu? Time for a major upgrade, son.
notarobotsays...It's a great game. Great atmosphere, great gameplay. One of the best RTSs ever released. And... now I'm going to start looking for it so I can finish this time...
