Henry Rollins on Gay Marriage

Why are some Americans so strongly opposed to gay marriage? Henry Rollins is convinced that not so many people are actually opposed. Instead he sees it as a fundraising tool for small fringe groups.Henry Rollins is an American singer-songwriter, spoken word artist, writer, comedian, publisher, actor, and radio DJ.After performing for the short-lived Washington D.C.-based band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the California hardcore punk band Black Flag from August 1981 until mid-1986. Following the band's breakup, Rollins soon established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61 to release his spoken word albums, as well as forming the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups from 1987 until 2003, and during 2006. Since Black Flag, Rollins has embarked on projects covering a variety of media. He has hosted numerous radio shows, such as Harmony in My Head on Indie 103, and television shows such as The Henry Rollins Show, MTV's 120 Minutes, and Jackass. He had a recurring dramatic role in the second season of Sons of Anarchy and has also had roles in several films. Rollins has also campaigned for various political causes in the United States, including promoting LGBT rights, World Hunger Relief, and an end to war in particular, and tours overseas with the United Service Organizations to entertain American troops.

There is a difference between fear, hate and what one believes what is wrong. If one believes that being gay is wrong then it is wrong.

The 2000 U.S. Census Bureau found that homosexual couples constitute less than 1% of American households. The Family Research Report says "around 2-3% of men, and 2% of women, are homosexual or bisexual." The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force estimates three to eight percent of both sexes. So who's right -- what percentage of the population is homosexual?

But bob, I believe that being gay is fine. So it's fine.

Can't argue with that logic, right?>> ^bobknight33:

There's nothing wrong with believing homosexuality is wrong. However, we have multiple constitutional precedents that remind us that our country as an institution believes discrimination is wrong. We can end discrimination against gay people without affecting your right to believe that being gay is wrong. Furthermore, typically the people who oppose gay marriage claim to oppose big government, so this is one less thing we'd all have to pay to enforce. But I suppose libertarian is only another way of saying (insanely) conservative these days, so never mind.

^ Oh yay, the good ol' "homosexuality is equivalent to zoophiliac gangbanging".

Notice how the homophobes and bigots are so obsessed about the sexual aspect of homosexuality? Repressive indoctrination and self-hate is probably not so good for having a healthy opinion about intimate relationships.

I believe 2+2=5, Belief doesn't make you correct. You should be listening to evidence, not belief.

@PostalBlowfish is absolutely right, you can believe homosexuality is wrong all you want. There are still lots of people who believe blacks are of inferior genetic stock, women shouldn't vote and that the earth is really flat and that we didn't go to the moon either.

Public policy, however, has a higher standard of evidence than what makes @bobknight33 and the other bible thumpers uncomfortable. Doesn't matter if there were only two homosexuals in the entire world or 200 billion, you still treat people with basic dignity and respect and they have a right to their pursuit of happiness as you do. Civil rights is not a popularity contest.

If homosexuality is so horrible and detrimental to society as you would have us believe, you shouldn't have any problem proving it without using the bible. I eagerly await your mountains of evidence.

Run away bob, run away to your next sift-trolling

I like that last line, and this is your notice that I intend to plagiarize.

I always forget this, but gay people CAN get married. A gay man can marry a gay woman, and no one has a problem with that. No one wants to ban that. They just want to ban gay people from marrying the people they love. I think they really just want to ban being different. If a person wants to be a bigot, so be it. They hate it when I point out their bigotry, but that's what happens when you act like a bigot. These people are entitled to be who they are, but they are not entitled to a government codifying their bigotry.

Ghosts from our past are wondering right now if we've learned anything from history, and I'm sure people 100 years in the future will be wondering the same.

bobknight33says...

Get off you high horse.

If one holds the opinion that begin gay is ok then you fine with it.
But If some one has the opinion that being gay is wrong than you think the worst of them. It appears that you have drawn a line in the sand and believe that bible believing people are the worst. Are you that intolerant of bible believing people.

I said nothing about mistreating or disrespecting gays and yet you drew you own false conclusions about me.

Poor @bobknight33

Do you have a learning disorder, memory problem or both?

1. I very clearly stated that being a bigot in the privacy of your own home and in your own head is perfectly fine. Just that when it comes to public policy, your religious views have no place. Did you just fail to read that or did you choose to ignore it?

2. You made the argument questioning the number of homosexuals in America. Again, you failed to comprehend or you chose to ignore it when I said that the number of homosexuals in America, or the world is irrelevant and they are deserving of the same inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as you are.

Thirdly, there is this wonderful thing called a post history. You may not have said anything explicit in this sift about homosexuals (debatable), but thanks to your post history we know PRECISELY how you feel about homosexuals, blacks and other minorities. You're a coward bob, but you can't run away from your own documented words.

bobknight33says...

Your comments make your a bigot.

liberals claim to be open minded and let everyone under the tent. I guess you only let those in if they agree with you.

You only open minded if I agree with you.

Not only are you a bigot you are also a hypocrite.

Ahh the "I know you are but what am I?" defense. Tell me bob, what is open minded about thinking homosexuals should be corralled into concentration camps? Please...enlighten me. Explain to me how homosexuality is wrong without using the bible and "it's gross" and "slippery slope to bestiality" Show me a glimmer of rational thought. Reason and logic beat myths and superstition every time.

You have a right to your opinion, but you're not safe from being criticized when your shit just doesn't pass muster. All opinions are not equally valid and shitty ideas have a way of being tossed aside

If you wanted an echo chamber, you're in the wrong place, bob.
