potchi79says...Please don't think Pat Robertson speaks for anyone but Pat Robertson.

peggedbeasays...*Fuck Yes! can we have a *fuck yes invocation that sends the speaker 100 hugs and some balloons?
shveddysays...I wasn't sure there was an appropriate way to respond to Mr. Robertson's nonsense. It seemed like mere disagreement or criticism could only fall short of revealing how nonsensical and terrible those comments were, and the act of addressing them would simply give Mr. Robertson undue attention. This guy proved me wrong.
notarobotsays...There is a bit of a *history lesson in here.

Did some fellow named Pat Robertson really accuse haiti of having made a pact with the devil, and then haiti responded with ya we made a pact with the devil but it helped you too????
It is worrisome that pact's with devils are being discussed on an international forum. Unless it's a metaphor for something else, then someone please explain with whom pacts we're made.

I found that somewhat remarkable as well. The Ambassador didn't actually deny the claim. That was enough to make me go read a little on the topic, and it sounds like the "deal with the devil" is mostly a slave-owner urban legend fueled by the Voodoo beliefs many of the slaves held.
Perhaps it's just not something the Haitian ambassador encounters everyday, and didn't really know how to respond without giving a generic argument about how important Haiti is to the US, which I suspect he uses a lot in his day job.
burdturglersays...I took it more as sarcasm/indignation .. something like: if Haiti were to have made a pact with the devil, the US was the main benefactor.
