Farhad2000says...This version pales when compared to the British original. IMHO.
rembarsays...I like both. I always hear people talking about how much better the British one is, but I also enjoy the fluffier, happy US version.
skfortysays...US one is terrible, i honestly think its generic and not funny. Like a pie in the face. The british version was flawless.
antsays...Haha, I like the football scene. I can't get into the show though.
mrikersays...As a big fan of the UK version, I was highly skeptical about the US version. As it turns out, I find the US version to be hilarious, with an excellent cast. One of the funniest shows on TV at the moment.
serosmegsays...british comedy is just weird
Kruposays...I just realized we once had a Dwight at work. My choice of verb tense, is, of course, deliberate.
LadyBugsays...i wish people would get a new line besides the 'the UK version is better' mantra they repeat. the US version, after winning numerous awards, is now in its 3rd season and has earned its spot on thursday night tv!
we get it ... the original is always better ... & the book is always better than the movie ... get over it!
Goofball_Jonessays...Yeah, really. Get over it. The UK version and the US version are both fine shows. Why can't they both exist?
Also, it doesn't make you appear cool or anything when you "pooh-pooh" something and prefer something else that's obscure or hard to find either. It makes you look like an elitist snob. If you don't like it, that's fine...but too often you appear to be just like Dwight himself.
Perfect example of this is rock-critic wanna-be Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times. He hates everything unless it's some obscure band or record that maybe 12 people in the world have heard. Read him some time and you'll see what I mean. Pure pompous ass.
antonyesays...The problem for us Brits is that we've seen all of the jokes before, and of course they are much funnier first time round.
Search for more of the UK clips, eg: Ricky Gervais in The Office showing someone round
LadyBugsays...i've seen all the jokes as well ... the first time 'round!
since the US version is now in their 3rd season ... there is not much left to imitate from the UK version! you either like it or you don't!
Farhad2000says...Am sorry but clearly expressing an opinion has become a crime.
The Office UK will always be a better version, the US version is doing well because it re-tooled the idea to an American market. But the difference is that like all American sitcoms it has to be in syndication, and will jump the shark because they will soon run out of ideas. Of course it would go into the 3rd season, it copied most of it's comedy from the Office UK 2 seasons.
Going into another season should not be a mark of success, the American TV market is obsessed with keeping plotlines going because more episodes = more syndication opportunities. Look at 24. They really need to pull something magical out now because there is only so much an audience will buy.
Am not expressing this to be a 'pompous ass', but rather because I don't see the point of product re-tooling movies or series to a North American market. You know what that shows? Laziness and lack of innovation. Look at the flood of Japanese scary movie re-makes.
special_opssays...Yay! First Top 15 video! As for the show, I love the American version, and have never seen the British version. So, I can't really comment on the debate.
LadyBugsays...it's actually not a lack of innovation ... this is one of the very first comedy sitcoms NOT to use a laugh a track! this comedy actually requires those who watch it to think outside of the box!
Farhad2000says...LadyBug.
The Office UK had no laughing track, filmed in cinéma vérité, like a documentary. That was it's innovation, copying isn't innovating.
LadyBugsays...ahem ... sorry, farhad! didn't mean to raise your dander ... i meant the innovation was to use no laugh track for the US audience!
