MGS4 or LBP, but GTA IV is a worthy recipient.
mysdrialsays...I'm guessing it was a hell of a lot better on the consoles.
As a PC release, it's at best worthy of a "play in five years when it will run on reasonable hardware", if they take the bloatware out of it by then.
It's sad, really, the others were always worth waiting for the PC release, and this one just screwed the pooch royally.
Fjnbksays...*promote
siftbotsays...Promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 1:40pm PST - promote requested by Fjnbk.
RedSkysays...I wonder how long Rockstar are going to be able to get away with being able to release essentially the same game with a new coat of paint. Not to mention atrociously optimizing it for PC. GTA4 was essentially Andreas, with better graphics, better voice acting, somewhat more relatable story and a couple of other minor touches. Other than that it was basically the same, drive here, kill these people, rinse, repeat gameplay that's been stale and unvaried for years.
Deanosays...For me, 2008 wasn't that great a gaming year. GTAIV annoyed me eventually. Like Vice City it has many joyous moments then I came across a bit that really put me off. GTAIV didn't feel focused enough particularly with these silly tasks to maintain relationships. No more bowling for me!
The best game I played was Mass Effect from 2007. Prince of Persia and Uncharted were both nice but since recently acquiring a PS3 I don't see anything else that interests me.
I'm beginning to think that 2010 might be the next great gaming year. Certainly Mass Effect 2 will be out by then and maybe KillZone 2
JAPRsays...GTAIV is a TERRIBLE recipient. They should have picked a game that actually pushed boundaries and tried new things.
gorillamansays...Strongly tempted to downvote just on their description of Fallout 3.
Irishmansays...Fallout 3 was the most enjoyable and immersive game I played this year, but the main quest was just far too short. I felt like I was about one third through it when all of a sudden it was over.
Still haven't played anything as good as Deus Ex or Half Life 2. Or multiplayer Amiga Hired Guns. Or Laser Squad on the Speccy.
