Frank Sinatra: Old Man River

Kind of crazy set--all white musicians etc. But listen to what Sinatra does at the end of the line: "get a little drunk and you land in (takes a giant breath) in jail . . ." It is to cry over. Amazing.

I'm amazed no one considered the irony of a white guy in a white suit surrounded by other white people in white suits on an all-white set singing a song a song intended for a black man (Paul Robeson) to sing.

I just assumed that everyone did. But, at the same time, and you have to consider that I love this guy, he seems to really get across the suffering and the sorrow to me, WHILE dressed all in white in a white man's heaven. I don't think the irony was lost on Sinatra.

My brother decided to learn this song. Got his wife to teach him to play it on the piano. Played it every morning and evening for months.

His 3 & 5 year old kids heard it. Every morning, for months.

Little pitchers have big ears.

You haven't lived until you have heard two sweet Mormon kids sing "get a little drunk and thrown in jail." Also "I gits weary." When they can't pronounce their "w"s.

A highlight of my life.
