Fire: Ruining Christmas One Year at a Time (0:54)

bnsasays...

I'm a volunteer firefighter and I just wanted to point out something I see all the time... You know when they say get down and crawl on all fours to the nearest exit? Look at the dark part of the smoke and how underneath it it's clear. You can still see a little and breathe enough to save your life verses standing up in the thick smoke. You have a better chance of dying by standing because you inhale toxic gases that WILL cause you to passout.

This public service announcement was brought to you by NEW Flammable Christmas Trees! Want to save the landfills? Want to stay warm on a cold winter day? Just light up your tree when you're done! Instant heat and space!

LOL, I try to avoid Christmas shopping altogether - making gifts is better than buying them.

Unless it involves getting Lego - I can't make Lego sets.

Yet.

I'm no expert in these things, but does this video look slightly speeded up to anyone else? I realise there's a big timer at the bottom of the screen, but the speed at which the other things in the room (particularly the shelf thingy on the right) catch fire is just astounding.

Maybe too much internet has just made me mistrustful...

baqueta ... astonishingly enough, this is the actual rate in which a room can become engulfed in flames.

i know this from our annual fire safety course at work ... this is one reason that every cottage and complex in our psych hospital is equipped with fire sprinklers.

freaky, huh?

i'm sure the reason it goes up so quickly is that 1) the tree is dry (per the pre-description) and 2) the heat is intensifying so quickly in the room that by the time the table has flames licking it, it's probably already near flash point. plus i'd be willing to bet that the table has been lacquered.
