Fast & Furious 6 stars are shocked by Singapore car prices

You may be as shocked as they were. Supposedly the government raises the prices to ridiculous levels to reduce congestion. My opinion is that it favors the wealthy.

The public transport is so good that there really isn't a need to drive a car around Singapore, so it's like a self imposed tax on those who can afford it.

Not much different in many other countries. In those countries its just handled over taxes and gas prices. For example in Germany you pay up to 65% taxes on gas prices, the additional yearly car tax is massive and the insurance even more. On top of that there are many small fees you have to pay, like every 2 years 100 Euro due to TÜV inspection, general high prices on car items (tires, parts, etc) and high rates on inspections and maintenance. Not to mention that wages havent increased in the last 15 years (except those of the wealthy), while things have become much much more expensive.
