FEMA and the shadow government (a history lesson)

joedirtsays...

Well, FYI, in case you're not aware, they are moving to modify FEMA to some new DHS 'domesic enforcement' entity.

When DHS was created, FEMA was rolled under it, rather than independent like it historically was. Now they new U.S. Emergency Management Authority, or USEMA will still slightly be under the DHS umbrella, but take on new task...

http://www.apfn.org/apfn/camps1.htm i have not researched this, i cannot stand by it -- but it is very likely true, and sends shivers down my spine when i think of all this, coupled with everthing else i know about this administration's behavior, and an election in 2 years when the party in power stands to lose branches of government, if not all. To what lengths will they go to avoid handing it over?
I may google 'fema' and 'camps'later, or if anyone knows, chime in.

I forget what has to happen for FEMA to be able suspend the constitution but it is definitely true. FEMA can suspend the Constitution of the United States for an INDEFINITE period. Once it takes power it relinquishes it when it decides that's appropriate.

Be afraid. Honestly, I couldn't imagine them doing something like that. They're American's like us, right? I assume they would want things the way they were and I hope we would want our way of life back enough to fight for the Constitution.

After FEMA's response to Katrina, I did feel a sigh of relief knowing that FEMA couldn't tie it's own damn shoe laces let alone take over the US Government.

Though I wasn't too thrilled with the Fed's eagerness to send in the National Guard to N'Oreans. Remember, they tried to get the governor to hand control of the state to the feds.

http://tinyurl.com/97sb3 WashPost "Behind the scenes, a power struggle emerged, as federal officials tried to wrest authority from Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D). Shortly before midnight Friday, the Bush administration sent her a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans, a source within the state's emergency operations center said Saturday.

"The administration sought unified control over all local police and state National Guard units reporting to the governor. Louisiana officials rejected the request after talks throughout the night, concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law. Some officials in the state suspected a political motive behind the request. "Quite frankly, if they'd been able to pull off taking it away from the locals, they then could have blamed everything on the locals," said the source, who does not have the authority to speak publicly."

You can't be on the left, demanding a socialist government that controls every aspect of peoples' lives, then panic when there are vague stirrings it might actually happen, even if it's in the form of an emergency government. Anyways, isn't this the liberal dream? A huge, powerful federal government making sure everything is FAIR for everyone?!

shroomer:
you write "isn't this the liberal dream?"
answer: NO

But I'm glad that even you can see the problems of a "government that controls every aspect of peoples' lives," and that you can see "it might actually happen"... and it seems even you know this is not a good thing.
but be clear on one point: this is not happening under the liberals, who are powerless in congress. it's happening during the watch of one George W. Bush and his party. So, again, the answer to your question is NO. This entire catastrophic situation was created by your neocon idols.
Why would you ever think this is a liberal goal? Ahh, it just felt right? Hopefully even you know your truthiness is utter worthless bullshit. Please stop lying. I'm sure it's a difficult habit to break, but this is an emergency. Try.

What a rediculous strawman argument. You are confusing economic and authoritarian issues together. The left in the U.S are anti-authoritarian, an obvious example being those against the patriot act. The last thing liberals want is a government that usurps people's individual rights. It's republicans (at least those in power) that want to plow through individual rights to force their views on everyone else.
