Carl Sagan wrote some interesting stuff about the phrase "fuck you". He reckons it comes from primate dominance games. Chimpanzees are constantly doing ritualized humping. Male/female, male/male, female/male, female/female.

No actual penetration, but just a little movement to kind of simulate it. The fucker is determined to be the dominant one in the relationship, while the fuckee is the the submissive. This is how they determine hierarchy.

Now, we don't go around ritualistically humping each other - but we have developed words - and "fuck you" has become our way of doing the dominance hump without actually doing it. The "I" is implied.

I guess, fundementally, I'm lost at how the "right" or "religious right", as it seems from this trailer, hopes to rid this word or type of speech from our vocabulary. I think it's the very notion that someone wants to stop me from saying the word that makes me want to scream it all the more.
