No offense (which really means I have ever intention of offending), but if he "lost you", then maybe you need to watch it again and pay attention to what he says. What he said was pretty clear and makes sense. Try listening to his opinions, as the show isn't about the camera work or cinematography. I hate it when people try to undermine someone on a nonsensical point while ignoring the substance at hand. Rather than judging him on the content (what he said), which you missed because apparently you were unable to keep up or understand his point, you attack the way in which it's filmed. This is a weak way to argue.
Seth said something along the lines of: The tea party people want what is against their own self interest, making them corporate puppets. He then said, what they [the tea party] want would be good for him, as in Seth's own self interests. In saying that, while saying he disagrees with the tea party movement, he's doing exactly as he claims the tea movement is doing. Despite the fact that movement would serve his own self interest, he's disagreeing with them/against them...therefore what he is for is against his own self interests.
Get it? He's doing the same thing he claims the tea party people are doing, but calling them puppets for it. If this was Back to the Future, he'd have created a paradox and destroyed the universe.
Xaxsays...I wasn't trying to argue anything, numbnuts. The hand camera is shit regardless of he was saying.
Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...Uh - McFarlane's argument is total bunk because Obamacare is NOT in the "self interest" of poor people, middle-class people, rich people or anybody except government workers. All the studies are showing Obamacare will (A) increase costs and (B) lower quality of care while (C) reducing the number of people who get health care period. It is already happening. But of course that's what Obama wanted in the first place.
So McFarlane's initial argument is just plain wrong because the Tea Party IS working for its own self interest. They are fighting to preserve a system where they have more of their own money, and have affordable health care coverage. They don't want that to go away just so Obama can act out his drug-addled college fantasies of socialism. So they fight it.
Regardless of the fact that Seth's FINANCIAL argument is wrong... The Tea Party also recognizes that fighting against the expansion of government is in the self interest of their FREEDOM. This is a fight that is even more valuable than a person's pocketbook. People will resist financial advantage if it comes at the price of freedom.
So - McFarlane - he's wrong about the TP. Both financially and philosophically. Why? Probably because he's a left-wing puppet.
Stusays..."you must defend people you don't agree with, it's where you find out where your principles really are"
Dumbest statement ever made. If someone lacks the intelligence to objectively analyze a situation from a standpoint which does not bias one way or the other, then defending someone will do nothing to change your viewpoint and simply waste time. This is why half the people in the American government should not have been elected.
I usually like Penn, but this Penn Point makes him into another typical political ranter that makes him look 'looney' and in the end will make him lose a small part of his following from people who either hate these rants or don't understand what he's saying.

Umm, the GAO, who's job it is to report on such things said it would save money. Other countries with similar systems have less expensive health care than the United States.
Point to one study that shows otherwise. It's easy to say, "All the studies say..." and fill in the blanks however you want but the fact is you can't back it up because it's a lie.

I don't agree with what you say, but I will die for your right to say it.
lesserfoolsays...Two dubious claims by Penn stand out:
1. The only evidence the Tea Party is racist is that they are all white.
2. No one can know what kind of medical plan is best for a demographic.

The GAO report is based on projections, estimates, and more than a little fantasy. The so-called 'savings' the GAO report listed came to a piddling total of about 70 billion dollars. That's less than the amount the Federal goverment LOSES in a week to simple accounting errors. Any hiccup in the plan and that estimate is so much crap.
For example...

OK - so 30+ companies get a year's "pardon" from Obamacare. How much did that screw up the math? In the process let's just ignore the fact that all these companies are out and out TELLING us that Obamacare is going to end up forcing companies to drop coverage or increase costs...
Facts are facts. Obamacare is already screwing up services, increasing cost, reducing coverage, and decreasing the number of people with health care while cutting the number of drug/services/proceedures that are covered. IT is a classic Federal program...
