Evidence of White Phosphorus in Gaza

From YT: The film was made by Fida Qishta, a camerawoman working for the International Solidarity Movement, a non-governmental organisation operating in Gaza. It was shot on Wednesday 14 January in Khoza'a, east of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip.

It shows clumps of the burning chemical on the ground as locals try to put it out by covering it with dust, mud and grass. The chemical, which locals describe as phosphorus, fails to go out and continues to burn through the debris piled upon it. As they kick it about, it subdivides into smaller lumps and continues to burn.

^ That's what the Israeli gov't says it is. I think it warrants further investigation, but already we've got military inspectors (hired by the press) saying this was from an incendiary weapon, not a smoke grenade or flare.

Personally, I think we should be hammering Israel for waging an asymmetric war with high civilian casualties, but if it takes nitpicking about the types of weapons to get the ball rolling, so be it.

Even the Israeli government is not denying white phosphorous bombs were used at this point. They still maintain the bombs were used lawfully away from civilian population.

This is a slight change from their previous position where they claim only inert white phosphorous was used to illuminate target area.

That was a change from their previous claim that no white phosphorous was used at all.

Stay tune for next week's explanations.

War Crimes, anyone?

This video is evidence of Nothing. lol
It is a closely-framed clip of some feet kicking around a hot object.
The object Seems to possess some of the attributes common to W.P., but we have no idea how it got there, or if it truly is.
Further, the vid was put out by ISM, the same bunch of terrorist-loving assholes who gave us the Passion of St Pancake (Rachel Corrie). You couldn't invent a more biased, less honest source.
Propaganda, pure and simple (and not very well done). And besides, W.P. is a legal and user-friendly munition. ;-)

^ So your three assertions are:

It's a fake, and not WP.
It's propaganda intended to make Israel look bad.
Use of WP is legal and "user-friendly".

The first two you might have a solid argument for, but the third dismisses all your first two assertions entirely.

If all use of WP is legal, why would propagandists fake a video showing its use?

Further, are you saying you're in favor of Israel so strongly that you aren't concerned at the prospect of them using incendiary weapons on civilians? If so, you've become a propagandist yourself.

The international Red Cross said Tuesday that Israel has fired white phosphorus shells in its offensive in the Gaza Strip, but has no evidence to suggest it is being used improperly or illegally.

The comments came after a human rights organization accused the Jewish state of using the incendiary agent, which ignites when it strikes the skin and burns straight through or until it is cut off from oxygen. It can cause horrific injuries.

White phosphorus is not considered a chemical weapon.

"In some of the strikes in Gaza it's pretty clear that phosphorus was used," Herby told The Associated Press. "But it's not very unusual to use phosphorus to create smoke or illuminate a target. We have no evidence to suggest it's being used in any other way."

In response, the IDF said Tuesday that it "wishes to reiterate that it uses weapons in compliance with international law, while strictly observing that they be used in accordance with the type of combat and its characteristics."

Herby said that using phosphorus to illuminate a target or create smoke is legitimate under international law, and that there was no evidence the Jewish state was intentionally using phosphorus in a questionable way, such as burning down buildings or consciously putting civilians at risk.
