So here's the deal (example here, up for discussion): When an an original embed is unavailable and fixing be in order, is it kosher to replace it with another embed of the same tone an timbre if it is done so without contest from the community at-large OR the original submitter, be they current users or in absentia? I do it all the time, good way to get real quick, Videosift© shit-tickets

..In FACT, I'm gonna do it again and again and hand out promotes until I get too tired to breathe and then pass out!

I has opinions.

A music video should not be replaced with a live performance, IMO.

A live performance should not be replaced with a music video, IMO.

A specific live performance should not be replaced with a different live performance, IMO.

An audiosift with arbitrary background visuals (artist slideshow, static image, vintage footage, ironic footage, any other kind of 'filler' footage) should be able to be replaced with embeds that have different arbitrary background visuals. A short film set to a popular song would not be considered arbitrary background visuals, IMO.

It looks like you replaced a music video with a live performance, which is a no-no IMO.

This particular music video features Mike Patton in a Mr. Bungle shirt, which makes me happy. I like to be happy. Please make me happy.

I don't understand. Same band, same song, same country, same year.

This is 20 seconds longer than the first vid posted, which had been called as dead twice before, and the length was added later. Who knows what was originally posted?

It seems to be the content, though. What could be a problem?

If it WASN'T the same content (and I have caught several blatantly wrong dead fixes by sifters), seems to me that if you keep it up after being warned, you should lose the ability to fix dead vids.

One sifter that I know of lost the ability to call dupe because of egregious and repeated errors. Seems like erroneous dead fixes should have the same consequences.

Is that what you are asking? If so, that is my opinion.

Well, this is interesting.

I agree with all of @dystopianfuturetoday's general guidelines. I also agree with @bareboards2's observation that we can't really know what the original video was for sure.

But, it looks to me as if @LadyBug put the original tags on the video and they only confuse me.
I didn't know this song--or band--so I looked up the wiki.
The tags "floppy" and "fish" seem to point to the original music video--also the thumbnail from @rasch187's fix is from the original music video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERTT_sv8sV0 -- embedding disabled).
The tags "Chile" and "1991" seem to refer to this live recording (or a similar live recording).
The music video was recorded in 1990--not in Chile.

One thing I can say is that @chingalera really does care (no matter what he says) and wants to do the right thing. He didn't have to point out this possible wrong video fix--but he did.
What a mensch.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

The idea behind replacing embeds - at least historically here on VideoSift - has been about replacing the exact same video with another source. e.g. YouTube goes dead, so replace it with a Break.com source.

IMO it's a slippery slope to start replacing videos with others that have the same "tone" - as it's open to very wide interpretation- that may have not been the intention of the original poster - and also possibly invalidates the description and comments of the original post. /2cents.

Okthen-I shall in future follow these simple suggestions and consider the same, the word of 4 tiny gods little gee...Someone else may either return this, declare it dead and wait for the pool, or forever let Mr. Bungle fan's live performance languish indefinitely here.

Thanks y'all
