Elephants painting!

They paint better than I do.

As mentioned in the comments for the other vid, there is more going on here than is obviously shown in the vids. Watch the "other" elephant in this vid. My impression is that the trainers pick the colour, put the paint on the brush, then show the elephant where to paint, then pass the brush to the elephants. These paintings are somewhere between connect-the-dots and paint-by-numbers.

Neat, but not nearly as significant as these vids would want you to believe. Especially the other vid is QUITE specific about the elephants' "creativity". Bollocks to that.

DJsunkid does have a point. Check out the paintings at the beginning of the video. Obviously the elephants aren't coming up with the idea for the painting by themselves. The trainers can't read elephant minds, and the colors are far too perfect. It doesn't look like they gesture. Especially if this is done as entertainment for tourists, the trainer probably makes some kind of motion on the leg, and the elephant draws whatever shape or line the trainer directed.

A note for djsunkid: The trainers don't touch the brushes. I've been to this Conservation Center in Thailand and watched the elephants paint. The trainers might whisper instructions as to what color to use, but nothing more than that. Some of the elephants use the colors instructed, but can't paint more than messy splotches. Others are more talented. The elephants are well-cared for at this Center and it's a great place to visit and support.
