Education: How They Do it in Sweden

This is a documentary about the very different approach Sweden takes toward education. Very interesting and progressive ideas being implemented. It's a shame that in the US, we are teaching to standardized tests. That is, our evaluations of our students' success is how well they take a test that we train them for.

Here is a link to the TIMSS report highlighting the placement of several sample grade levels for different countries in terms of math and science: http://nces.ed.gov/pubs99/1999081.pdf

As you can see, Sweden starts off slow, but at the higher grade levels, are at the top of the charts.
omnistegansays...

I've often thought that Sweden would be somewhere I would like to live, especially if I were to ever have children.
I struggled in high school, and now, 4 years after I was supposed to graduate, I'm still trying to fix my mistakes. I've often considered that if the school system I grew up with was different, that things would have turned out better.
I guess I can't do much more than speculate however.
