14087says...I don't see any difference between the quality of the display of this device vs. the Kindle or Sony's reader.
And "less than 1 lb" isn't saying much, I can't imagine a .75 lb letter sized ebook would be comfortable on the wrist after an hour.

Good point, but it's still batshit crazy cool.
spawnflaggersays...can you twirl it?
^that's always the first question I ask of anyone holding expensive electronic prototypes...
also
^that's what she said.
BreaksTheEarthsays...If what the lady in the video says is true, then it doesn't have problems displaying PDF files that the Kindle does.
This alone makes it worth it. I hate having to read journal articles on a computer or print off hundreds of pages. If this thing is less than 500 bucks, I'm buying it.
braindonutsays...What it has over the kindle is a touch screen interface. After using my iPhone as a "reader," I absolutely refuse to buy a Kindle. There's something wonderful about the interaction you get from a well made touch interface, in regards to reading. When I look at the Kindle, even the new one, I see an ugly clunky thing covered in buttons. That's not the kind of interface I want to cuddle up to, for reading a long book.
That being said, I've yet to see a digital reader that would pull me away from simply using my iPhone as one.
oxdottirsays...This page "turning" is much faster than a kindle, and the surface is much larger. The kindle screen is 6 inches.
Honestly, I have a kindle on order, and this video makes me feel bad about it.
MaxWildersays...I'm very excited this tech is finally taking off. It's not quite to the point where I'd shell out $500 for one, but it's not far off.
Perhaps if the color version has good resolution and paper-like appearance, I'll jump in then.
alizarinsays...I remember reading about something looked like this 10 or 20 years ago in a science magazine... I think we'll see it when we get our flying cars.
oxdottirsays...Was that a joke, ALizarin? This isn't a mock-up; this is a real item. Have you seen Kindles?
