Dennis Hopper On The View - I Voted For Obama

Dennis Hopper stopped by The View on election day to promote his tv series "Crash." Before that though, they asked if he voted. He did, for Obama.

Hopper said that he had been a Republican since Reagan, but the choice Sarah Palin pushed him over the edge and he voted for Barack Obama instead. He then told a lovely anecdote of Obama saying kind words to him about his mother's death once.

Hopper previously said he prayed for an Obama victory, but didn't say why.

I am unaware of, and cannot locate, any reference to Thomas Jefferson having stated anything specifically regarding changing political parties every twenty years. However, there is the following Jefferson quote that I suspect Hopper may be referring to:

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure."

--Thomas Jefferson to William S. Smith, 1787.

Oh, thank you so much Leading Zero, I've been thinking about that "refreshed with blood" quote for WEEKS, but I couldnt remember the phrasing or who said it, so googling was impossible. Its also hard asking people "who said that thing about the thing again?"

That quote is, I believe, a statement made to support the 4th 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms
