Cop has to pay $18K for arresting firefighter trying to help

A police officer in Hazelwood will have to pay $18,000 dollars for getting into it with a firefighter while he was trying to help an accident victim.

His attorney says he's disappointed and that his client's conduct was not malicious in any way.

Police dash cam video shows the Hazelwood police officer arresting a fire captain while he's trying to move an injured driver.

It happened on Interstate 270 back in May of 2003.

Officer Todd Greeves wanted a fire truck moved to open up another lane of traffic.

The Robertson Fire Protection District Captain wanted the truck there to protect emergency workers.

This is where cops need better training. They're trained to have full charge of a situation no matter what. They'll arrest anyone, allow people to be put in danger, take away any rights, even let people die before they relinquish an inch of control. You could be fighting to get your kid out of a burning car and if you ignore the cop telling you to get back he'll probably taser you before giving it a second thought.

I actually have friends who are cops and my understanding of their training is that it includes a rule that life saving techniques and procedures get precedence over law enforcement. If this cop hadn't been trained to know that, he wouldn't have been liable, his department would have been. This cop was an idiot and he paid for it. Case closed.

Case reopened. It's comforting to see an officer being held accountable for his actions. I get so sick of hearing they receive a suspension with pay as their punishment. What kind of punishment is that? That's called a vacation!

Shame he fits so closely the stereotypical image of the abusive, ineffectual cop who is so fat he waddles down the blacktop. Even got a little piggy mustache. What a fucking douche.
