Color Changing Liquid (I love Potassium Permanganate!)

YT: KMnO4 + NaOH + sugar

Potassium permanganate solution changes colour when poured into sodium hydroxide and sugar solution. Colours are as follows:

- purple (MnO4- ions)
- blue (MnO4 3- ions)
- green (MnO4 2- ions)
- orange (Mn 3+ ions)

Better known as Condy's crystals, one of the best ways to ensure bacteria-free water for drinking when going hiking, is to add a bit to virtually any water source, and it cleanses it from all forms of biological nasties.

It's like a swan -- nothing seems to be happening on the surface, but those molecules must be busy as heck! Not that I am a chemist.

Moving this video to mintbbb's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

Particularly fun when mixed with glycerol isn't it? And as I recall it stains whatever it gets anywhere near.

Edit: Yep, quite energetic.
