timefactorsays...This isn't one of those gags where a monster face pops up. I swear.
deathcowsays...Wondeful illusion. The color lasts a portion of a second for me, then a couple spastic sparks of color, then gone.

Yeah, I was expecting the guy with "bug" written on his forehead, ready to flinch and squeal like a sissy.

That is pretty cool though, like DC - only lasts a second or so for me.
vaterunsersays...for me it lasts as long as I stare at the black dot...as soon as you move your eyes, the illusion disappears
timefactorsays...If the color disappears then re-focus on the black dot in the black and white image. The color suddenly reappears when I do that. It's as though my brain filters out the afterimage unless it's perfectly aligned with the black and white one.
daphnesays...Oh WOW! I got to the end and thought, "So? What's supposed to happen?" I was astounded. I did it again so I could fully appreciate it.
Thanks for saying it wasn't a "BOO" thing...that's exactly what I was thinking.
slybrisays...I think this has something to do with the rods and cones in your eyes being saturated with the colors as you stare at the dot, then those colors bleed ove to the BW pixture.
At first I thought it was a gag, like the picture was in color anyways, but then i watched it again and moved my eyes and saw the thing was in BW.
Nifty.
bnsasays...That was cool! :-)
parrasays...Yeah I turned my sound right down for that one
sillmasays...lasts only second or two, but very nifty all the same
deathcowsays...WOw.... if I really work at keeping my eye exactly on the dot I can keep the color a long time.
Sonodocsays...Try it with one eye closed - if you close the eye that sees the color image (it's an afterimage - what you are staring at until the change is a negative) and quickly open the other eye, the image will be in black and white. You can alternate eyes for a couple of seconds to "blink" the color on and off.
winkler1says...I showed this to a Yale psych professor who studies vision. His response was "Holy Crap!"..is now using it in his classroom.
deathcowsays...If I do not blink, do not move, I can hold the color for a long time, to where it slowly fades out. If I move, POW! its gone.
