I've tried to put my controllers onto a virtual windowsill so that I could adjust my headset mid game.... so I'm not surprised this would happen after a drink or two.

It's not that VR looks real or anything, but something in the brain just accepts it as real, particularly for automatic actions, such as wanting reach out to touch etc.
