How did he get so many different variants of the same coin?

Copper pennies lose their shine pretty quickly. Depending on the age and use of the coin, they range all the way to almost black.

Aye, impressive enough for a vote.

Now if you really want to impress me, make a printer that prints with pennies.

I think I see a Canadian penny in there.

That is a lot of time to devote to such a thing, but art is art after all.

The pennies could have also been slightly treated. Copper is very easily tarnished by various chemicals. Doen't hamper the overall intention though.
