gluoniumsays...I can't imagine this is real. toothpaste? why? I doubt that even a zinc/copper lemon battery could produce the required voltage.
Sylvester_Inksays...It's probably the cotton ball. Since it has so much area and the strands are so small, all it takes is for one tiny strand to catch the spark that results from the short circuit. As soon as that starts to smolder, the surrounding oxygen and inflammable material will start enough of a chain reaction to light the fire.
