3.2 Gigapixel Telescope (or World's Largest Digital Camera)

The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (to be completed in 2013) will photograph the visible nightsky every 3 days at a resolution of 3,200 megapixels. Much of the terabytes of information gathered will be in the public domain due to funding from Google (and others incl. Bill Gates). More info: here and here.

I think it's cool. I'll be glad when it's up and running. Although at the rate that technology has been advancing lately with digital photography we'll probably have gigapixel cameras in our consumer level cameras and phones by the time they get the telescope built...
