$15M in ads from WH propaganda group try to make 911=Iraq

A conservative group called "Freedom's Watch" is making a 15 million dollar ad buy to get misleading propagandistic ads on the air in 20 states. The ads falsely conflate the Iraq war with 9/11 in subtle visual ways. They're meant to confuse the American public into supporting Bush's failing "surge" policy. And who is the point man for this conservative pro-war group? None other than Bush's former press secretary, Ari Fleischer.
joedirtsays...

I mean they must be getting lazy and bored. To trot out the former WH spokesperson as the talking head for this PR campaign. Makes you wonder why there is all of the sudden a $15M PR campaign to link al-Q with Iraq and Iran!! The war is coming quickly I see. And then asshats like QM and ORLY can be drafted.

quantumushroomsays...

If 9/11 was the trigger to invade a country, why did we invade Afghanistan first and not Iraq?

9/11 officially started the worldwide hot war against islamofascism, which didn't start with Iraq and won't end there. Iraq will end up being a successful minor chapter in what will be a decades-long war against evil.

qruelsays...

QM has been drinking the coolaide to spout off wishful thinking such as this ....Iraq will end up being a successful minor chapter in what will be a decades-long war against evil.

personally I think QM and Bill O are just a colbert type act saying the idiotic things we've grown accustom to hearing from republicans with their heads up their asses.

GREAT FIND JOE !

RedSkysays...

Lol, yep because Japan and Germany weren't allies in WWII now were they? His only legitimate argument was that we should be thinking in the present, or at least it was until the shameless referencing to 9/11 in the ad.

deedub81says...

I don't see anything wrong with that. Ari Fleischer is articulate and he makes sense.

Islamic Extremists are gathering in Iraq. And yes, Islamic Extremists attacked us first. Whether or not you agree with the reason why we went there in the first place, you've got to agree that we have to stick around in Iraq until the Iraqis can police their own country.

Farhad2000says...

Oh please.

First of all if the target is islamic extremism then please invade Saudi Arabia and it's regime based on Salafist Islam that keeps sending suicide bombers into Iraq against Iraqis, Shi'ites and American troops. With the Royal Saudi family actively supporting it because it lets them off the hook for basically running the country as a oppressive dictatorship. Guess where most foreign insurgent combatants come from in Iraq?

Second of all pick your target, the Iraq war did more to reenforce al-Qaeda's position (you know the guys who actually did attack on 9/11), as it re-organizes, gets more funding and more radicalized youth who see the American forces as occupiers who invaded a soverign nation. American forces play into the hands of the enemy, perpetually sent out on patrols so that IED's can kill them. The evidence is that al-Qaeda actually wants the United States to remain bogged down in Iraq indefinitely so the organization can continue to exploit the American occupation.

Third get your head out of the sand and stop believing everything the adminstration pushes at you as the truth, because while fighting the war on terror you lost more civil liberities then ever before. Soon enough the way of life they claim to defend won't exist and you will have a dictatorship for reasons of 'national security'.

EDDsays...

can anybody tell me the brand of brainwashing machine that was used to screw with BillO's head? he seems like a pleasant fellow, and I just can't believe anyone would actually take this load of crap for the truth.

joedirtsays...

Hey, deedub81, I can only assume you are born in 1981, so you had better shut your mouth with this we have to "let soldiers get killed as long as it takes" bullsh*t. You are old enough to enlist, so if you aren't already a veteran, you should shut your chickenhawk yap. And even 300 lbs fatties can go to the special army fat camp and eventually make it over to Iraq. What do you say? Heck you're probably done with college by now. Time for a second career.

honkeytonk73says...

F-ing neocons trying to hide their f-ing f-ups. They are still trying to spew their 911=Iraq BS, yet finally the majority American public is using their brains rather than their bibles and understand they were being fed BS since the beginning.

MarineGunrocksays...

Ahh, yes. Another "Fucking Iraq" debate.

I kind of like these, because from what I can tell, I'm the only Sifter that's actually been there.
So once more, I say this to my fellow Sifters:

Yes, the American people were duped into thinking we had just cause to invade Iraq (other than Saddam is a tyrannical ass hole that oppressed his people)
So we invaded. There's not much that can be done about it now.
But we're already engaged in a war against terrorists. And we're making headway. Lots of it. And they're coming to us, rather than us looking in other countries.
Also, I think the biggest counter to the "Why don't we invade the countries Al-Q is coming from?

Well, it's really simple. We're already in Iraq. We have bases, supply line. Supplies. Bunkers. Strongholds. And anything you could deem necessary for waging a war. The Al-Q is coming to us there. Why should we make ourselves vulnerable and move to another country?

xxovercastxxsays...

I largely agree with the jarhead. Should we have gone into Iraq in the first place? No, probably not. But we did, and we made a huge mess. Now we need to take responsibility for it. I think it's horrible that innocent soldiers need to bear that responsibility instead of the lying pricks who put them there. Here we have citizens who have pledged service to protect and serve our country and the president puts them in a death trap in order to fulfill his personal vendetta, using a few thousand of our innocent murdered countrymen as an excuse no less.

I don't think removing Saddam from power was a bad thing, but I don't think this was the time to do it. Executing him was stepping way over the line. Yes, I know he was tried, convicted and sentenced by Iraqis, but that was a blatant sock-puppet show.

There's no good way out of Iraq at this point. I just hope we do the best clean-up job we can as quickly as we can and get our soldiers home.

Memoraresays...

"We have bases, supply line. Supplies. Bunkers. Strongholds.

Anything necessary for waging a war...
Like the lives of ANOTHER 3500+ US soldiers that will just be pissed away for nothing?
Like ANOTHER few Thousand who'll be crippled, blinded and disfigured for life?
Like ANOTHER few Tens of Thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians who will be killed by this bullsht?

The only soldiers who claim to have "actually been there" and talk crap like that were the techs stationed safely in Kuwait, or MPs sitting safely in the green zone, or grunts floating safely offshore on some carrier, who never "actually" took part in any "actual" fighting themselves.

joedirtsays...

MarineG,

I think the trouble is with the concept of fighting 'terrists'. There isn't "al-Q" coming from all over to Iraq to fight there. Does that even make sense? So Iraq is like a pest trap where Japanese Beetle fall in the water?

Look, the vast, vast majority of people there with guns are insurgents, aka pissed off people who have lived there their whole lives. I guarantee if some country occupied your hometown you would also become an insurgent. Now we have sectarian war and ethnic cleansing going on.

The US has no business staying there. It would be one thing if anyone in the puppet regime even wants us there, but they don't. It would be another thing if the US was doing a good job with even basics like water, electricity, infrastructure, but they haven't. We have left people stuck with almost NO electricity. Wasted billions on rebuilding projects, lost billions of money that just vanished. Guns are being given and sold to who know what, all over the place. If we wanted peace there, we would be ARMING BOTH SIDES.

The goal is to keep it as unstable as possible to keep access to the oil. It is the biggest screw up and illegal war in modern history. Staying there makes less sense especially when people admit what a bad idea it was in the first place.

So you came home drunk from the bar and wake up next to a 350lb, one legged, inbred 45yr old cougar. So you keep dating her because you were duped, and you already invaded her. You already setup shop, and it's going to upset her if you leave...

quantumushroomsays...

quantumushroom, thank you for your serv.....oh, never mind.

That's right, numbnuts, make a personal attack. I mean, what else do you have? What else does any liberal ever bring to the table except higher taxes, less freedom, moral relativism and just plain excuses for NOT getting the job done?

My Service was Active Duty from 1993 to 2000. Where's yours? The Trotsky Chess Club?

MarineGunrocksays...

Wow, I can not believe I'm going to say this... but QM, I agree with you there (somewhat).

That's awesome Memorare. Yeah, personal attacks are on? Fine. You're not going to find me sitting in the green zone or in Kuwait, or even floating off shore.
Ever heard of the Sunni Triangle of death? Guess what, asshole? That's where I was.
Hmm... I find the physics hard to work out over this next one: If I'm sitting in the green zone, off shore or in Kuwait, then please, memorare, PLEASE explain to me why 1) I've been shot at, 2) I've shot at others, 3) I've killed others, 4)I've been mortared countless times, and 5)I feared for my life on a regular basis.

Ever walked down a crowded Iraqi street not knowing if it will be the last time that you'll walk? Or even BREATHE!?!

You don't think that I haven't shed tears for my fellow Marines, soldiers and sailors that have lost their lives in that conflict? That I had to use all the strength that I had to not cry when I was standing at attention saluting my fallen comrades, my friends in their remembrance ceremony?

If you weren't so quick to make an ass out of yourself, you might have fucking noticed that the US isn't going to end the war anytime soon. All I was saying is that by staying put, we're saving lives that would otherwise be risked in a move.

I am not 100% sure this is the same video, but it is the same topic and it they are both hardball. I think they are the same.

littledragon_79says...

Damn, I might have to donate so I can get enough points to promote. I'm glad they spent more on this ad campaign than the 9/11 Commission. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,437267,00.html

Both of which are eclipsed by the spending for the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1999/04/01/counsel.probe.costs/

Really shows where our priorities are. Because who is having sex with who is WAY more fucking important than knowing who wants to kill us (USA) and why. Fucking A, B, and C this is angrying up my blood. I'll be in the Angry Dome if anyone needs me.
