I hate to admit the malfunction thing was my first thought too. It looks like a firefighter's nightmare and I'd hate to have it going off in my building when people were trying to protect the place. Cool concept though. If I could be convinced it was failsafed enough I can see it in the car application.

I'm pretty sure the financial institutions don't buy machines they have no way to audit. The problem here is that the government doesn't know how to properly research, purchase and verify these sorts of technology. It'll be a long time before you have that sort of knowledge at a local level, which is why a meaningful national standard is needed.

I used to be skeptical, but I'm starting to buy into the HFCS line of argument. Exercise is key, but I'm hardly convinced that levels of caloric intake vs. exercise have changed that dramatically in the time period in question. Eat right is a lot harder when the foods available have been engineered to make them fundamentally problematic.
