US Navy's Laser Weapon System (LaWS)

mram says...

If it doesn't make the Star Wars laser cannon sound every time it fires, we have failed as a species.

Alternatively, if this is mounted on planes, I expected the announcement of this technology to be shown off better. I mean, where is the house full of unpopped popcorn that we can cook from high altitude? That would've been impressive.

Christian Bale Talking To 8 Year Old Cancer Patient Zach.

mram says...

Wales, England, ginormous ego, whatever...

Kid gets a chance to talk to his hero. Hero does a fine job just being human for a while and not focusing on the hurt. That's what's most important here and it's not really about Bale, it's about Zach.

Kudos and salutations, sir.

Les Miserables - Trailer #2 - 2012

So they had a preview of this earlier in the year where the actors and director were explaining how they filmed this to be actual live singing and not just a voiceover, and how much better that would be. I was like 80% sold hearing the description, but there wasn't much of an actual example in that preview.

Basically most musicals have the actors singing the parts in a studio, and then 2 months later are playing it out and just mouthing out the words to a pre-recorded track. This is NOT that. This is the actors singing live as they are acting. It's very much still a movie, but the singing is not a voiceover track...

This is stunning. I'm not one for musicals but I think I'll find a way to see this. It has all the good elements of a theatrical play with the narrative scope of a movie. I'm not saying it'll replace the intimacy of a playhouse theatre, but this is impressive work.

Second Reality - KORG DS-10 Version.

Tea Party is the American Taliban

mram says...

Stephen Colbert said it best in a video bit that I'll leave it to you to find, if you care, but I'll paraphrase.

The difference between Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party is that the Tea Party has representation. OWS is a collection of individuals with no representation; individuals acting of their own accord.

Now as far as you saying the Tea Party not being offensive, well... I can look at the last minute of this video and see the list of things that I absolutely can show linked to the Tea Party and I find that extremely offensive and racist and even condoning violence -- close enough without actually pulling the trigger.

The simple fact is that neolibs want a bad guy to demonize. Neolibs and leftists in general are simple, shallow, and vapid - very much like Sorkin and his on-air wet dream that he calls a 'show'. To these narrow-minded creatures, it is unacceptable to see honest, well-intentioned, reasonable everyday citizens opposing their radical agenda items. The Tea Party as a whole has been inoffensive and has as simple, basic message: cut spending. They aren't racists, or violent. They aren't anything close to the Taliban. But truth and reality don't matter to blinkered neolibs who NEED... who desperately CRAVE a man in a cloak with a twirling moustache to hate

Religion provides hope in the absence of fact. That's why it has existed throughout recorded history, because everyone has always needed some form of hope, and the fabrication of a deity who can provide this hope has always been the easy answer.

Keep Wall Street Occupied

mram says...

Anything we send through the US Mail is money spent ON the US Mail. Remember, the money owed on postage is only paid upon use of the envelope.

Also those crappy workers who have to open the envelope also gotta have work. They may not care, but if the "signal to noise" on returned mail gets too high, the message will be sent up the chain anyway.

No matter what, I see this as a win. If you think it's a waste of time for the intended result, I still see two different organizations who literally benefit from the action -- a roundabout economy boost.>> ^L0cky:

On top of that, your local (probably unionised) mailman will have to lug around this extra mail on his/her collection round.

Video Of The Moment Gaddafi Was Caught

mram says...

Seriously, really, I recognize the adhoc and chaotic nature of the filming but would it really have been that hard to take a step back and have a clear video? An epileptic kangaroo could've held the camera more steady.

There's almost nothing to see here unless you want to freeze frame at opportune moments.

My apologies to any epileptic kangaroo filmmakers out there I might have offended.
