Fire in the hole! - Pirates

spoco2 says...

Have seen about half of this film... the captain is actually really good at the whole cock (tee hee) sure James T Kirk thing.

As is usually the case with these sorts of things you don't really watch them for the story, even with your significant other... so when the story bits drag on it's a bit tiresome.

I don't know whether there exists such adult movies, but what would be great is not just a quick collection of sex scenes, not a movie with exhaustive story sections, but one which has short, but scene setting lead ins to its sex, so you have a nice build up to each scene, and some context to make it all work better... but not so much that you're wondering why you just didn't watch a mainstream movie instead!

The Man behind the Winky's - Freakily Awesome Scene

Amazing scene. The camera work and pacing throughout this film actually set me on edge, and this is the first time in a long time I've literally gripped the armrest with sweaty hands. (and I don't just mean during the sex scene, buhdum tsh)

*spoilers*

So this scene is the only one that doesn't fit into what I accept as the most reasonable interpretation of this film. Well it sort of does, in that it serves to set up the "you're in both dreams" bit, and to introduce scary-face man.

The interpretation I speak of was passed onto me just now after having seen it for the first time: the second half is the reality, evidenced by the real-world look, especially the lack of makeup and Diane's inability to maintain her fantasies (that's some really difficult acting that Naomi Watts did incredibly in). The first half is dream world, perhaps created out of a subconscious desire to reverse roles and put Diane in the position of power, whereby all the faces and aspects seen during that traumatic revelation at the party are pieced into logic by the dream-brain. Thus, the ever-presence of makeup (even after a shower) in the first half, as well as Naomi's overdone bubbly acting and Nancy Drew shenanigans. The extremely odd behaviour in the director's meeting could be a representation of Diane's resentment and imaginings of how the filmmaking executive world.

Also I was reminded of the beginning, in which we see Diane's perspective as she falls onto that pillow (presumably right after suicide), and thus came the inference that the first half occurs between the time she pulls the trigger and the time her brain shuts off.

Finally, in the Club Silencio, we (including Diane) are being reminded that it is all an illusion. The colour blue makes another dramatic appearance, popping in contrast to the black and red everywhere else. During the thunderstorm, Diane begins to convulse, which immediately reminded me (even though at the time I had no idea) of the waking convulsions that I get and I know some others get on occasion, especially when falling asleep sitting up.

As an afterthought, I don't know where the old people came from, and that last scene there scared the bejeezus out of me.

I realize that all of this is probably on some forum or site somewhere, but I just got home from seeing the movie and had to sort it out somewhere.

And no, I didn't just pick the first sex video I found and throw it up here. I really and truly believe that this is a great video, something people should see and worthy of being on the site.

Sarzy, my agreeing it is a great scene does nothing to alleviate my strong feeling that it shouldn't be here. I can find tons of beautiful, magical, artistic sex scenes from world cinema. There are probably sites for appreciating that kind of content, but I don't want this to be one of them. Porn has a connotation of cheap : fair enough, don't call this porn; this is adult content. I don't know about this being something "people should see." I bet I can find tons of more moving, more arousing, more beautiful sex scenes, at least by my lights. There is no social crusade needed here. This isn't a dirty secret that needed to be exposed. Yes, Nicole kidman's character is more turned on by her own beauty than the touch of her lover. Not earth shattering. The Greeks talked about that a couple of thoousand years ago.

Really? The movie sure - but this particular scene is just a sex scene, taken out of context.

This is explicitly sexual. The rest of the movie may be great (I tried to watch it once, and I was just bored). This clip was posted in protest of the stating that sexually explicit material isn't appropriate on Videosift. It has no point other than that. Sure, it's beautiful, but it's nothing but sex, and that isn't the videosift we had until this: this is sexually explicit.

Did other clips discuss sex? Did other clips elude to sex? they did. Almost without exception, the other clips would have been legally hostable on youtube. This video is not hostable on youtube (apart from the issue of copyright). This is an inappropriate clip.

Think about this. Do you really want tons of clips of naked beautiful people here? Do you want the sex scenes from every single movie showing up here as art? I've seen objections to clips because of bare breasts. This isn't just bare breasts: this is sex. Is that what you want people coming to videosift for? You want people to make videos like the famous WoW one where people film some poor guy jerking off to videosift? I don't.

Until now, I could watch every single video on videosift without being forced to watch a video that had no point but to turn the viewer on.

Don't kid yourself: if this video stays, it makes a statement. As Sarzy said above, he wouldn't normally submit this. The whole reason he submitted it was to make a statement: let it stand and it CHANGES VideoSift.

I'm not against sex. I'm not against depections of sex. I'm not against sex on the web. This place was designed to not be about explicit sex, and it's one of the things I liked about it. I'm not going to let it change without kicking up a fuss. This is the fuss.

Now Dag and Lucky and I don't know who else will decide what's to be done here, and I am pretty sure they will pay attention to what people say. As far as I can tell, I'm pretty much alone in objecting to this video, so perhaps you will all get the change in videosift that this video represents. If you do, I believe the sift will be irreparably harmed; from your point of view, it may change for the better, but in either case, it has changed.

Sex By Design - A monologue by Betty Dodson

Great sift, Thylan! How does she get guys to dream up sex scenes, email them to her and then come over and try them out? She's obviously not exclusively lesbian. lol

I agree with her, sex can be beautiful and thought put into it can help it be so.

Jim Carrey - CSI Miami

Quboid says...

Ugh, Caruso is so irritating I can barely watch this. If you ever get the chance, DON'T watch a film made about 10 years ago called Gold Coast or something like that. It starred Caruso and Marg Helgenberger, the oldest chick from the original CSI. It's serious car crash material and the sex scenes featuring those two (among others) are just hellish whether you're a CSI fan or not.

The Making of 300:Part 1

raven says...

ehem... as the resident female expert on balls-to-the-wall action films I have to argue that it's not a chick thing to dislike the action movies, I think it's more of a personal preference (although I am, admittedly, a rare bird)...

However, I do have to agree with bizinichi... the dialogue was HORRIBLE!!! as was most of the acting, and several subplots (undoubtedly added to pad the length of the film and have more opportunities for Gorgo to slink about in her gravity-defying costumes).

Frankly, as a fan of Frank Miller and a student of the classics to boot, I was highly anticipating this film, and turned out to be terribly disappointed... some of the decisions that were made seem totally inexplicable to me (ie, several awkward and unnecessary sex scenes, a 9-foot tall Xerxes, and the inclusion of a lobster-lad like monster to name a few)... and don't get me wrong, I am not one of those closeted scholar types who gets pissed off at historical misrepresentations in film, I likes me a good sword-and-sandal free for all probably more than most people, and I did enjoy Frank Miller's take on Thermopylae, have for several years now. But this, by movie standards, was BAD... I actually dozed off towards the end!

"The Bitch of Living", from hot new Broadway musical

Erotic new musical a surprise hit on Broadway

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Teenage sex scenes showing a naked breast, masturbation and sadomasochism aren't the usual Broadway fare, but "Spring Awakening" has become the surprise hit musical of the season while being hailed as tastefully erotic.

Adapted from German playwright Frank Wedekind's then-scandalous 1891 play, "Spring Awakening" looks at the angst of high school students and their sexual awakening in repressed 19th-century Germany.

With song titles such as "The Bitch of Living" and "Touch Me," the show opened on Broadway last month to glowing reviews that compared its contemporary rock song score to that of the prize-winning "Rent." Its run was recently extended...

NSFW, Nudity, and the Sift: Pushing and then defining the boundaries (Sift Talk Post)

dotdude says...

The local New Orleans Academy of Fine Art maintains the following philosophy: if you can master the human figure, you can paint anything you want. At the other end of the spectrum, the avant-garde has embraced porn in art. ARTNEWS has already had two issues devoted to the subject in the last three years.

As Attorney General, John Ashcroft found it necessary to hide Liberty’s (the statue) exposed boob behind a blue curtain when he addressed the press. An art teacher in Texas lost her job because a kid saw a nude statue and complained.

I did sit through a documentary about the Motion Picture Association of America’s (MPAA) rating system, “ This Film Has Not Been Rated Yet.” It did point out that in the US we’re harsher on sex in films than violence. In Europe it is the opposite. There were interviews with directors who had to fight NC-17 ratings. Non-missionary, pubic hair and weird sex seemed to put a film in NC-17 territory. Sometimes the amount of seconds made a difference.

And now thanks to John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) there is “Shortbus.” It’s an art film with real sex scenes. Three guys do for the “The Star Bangle Banner” what “American Pie” did for apple pie. There are several plotlines involving relationships and the main characters go to a club called Shortbus.

Anyway, I’m torn on the whole issue. I’m tired of folks making such a big deal of nudity. But at the same time I don’t need to see every bodily function up close and personal. I’ll vote as needed.
