Toxicity Comparison (This little will KILL you)

yellowc says...

Interesting but not terribly useful without context (on the smaller scale, 1L of vodka is pretty easy to understand).

How much venom does a hornet typically release in one attack? Obviously not the lethal dose but still, it'd be more interesting to visualise how many hornet stings it takes to kill me.

How much caffeine in a typical cup of coffee? How much salt in an average wrap? etc

When you send dad to get the boy a lunchbox

Please don't put your kids lunches into plastic contains. If you do, make sure it's wrapped so the food doesn't come into contact with the plastic.

I'm calling bullshit.

They wrapped it in duct tape just to record this video and make ad money on YouTube.

I'm onto them.

Dog Feels Petting Instead of Abuse For The First Time

transmorpher says...

I'm trying to point out(and failing obviously lol): If we feel so bad for this poor dog, why do we turn a blind eye to farm animals that are mistreated and killed? They all feel pain and have emotional responses just the same.

We all like eating meat and butter, but is that worth the animals suffering and dying for it? (especially when there are some great alternatives. Nut butters, coconut butters, cashew spreads you name it, margarine at worst case) That's a decision for you to make. :-)

If a dog beater told you that "animals kill each other in nature all the time" would you accept that answer? Would that stop you from feeling bad for the dog?

When someone at the Yulin dog festival says "it's my tradition" or "I like the taste" do you accept that?

Then why do we make the same statements for cows? (don't worry, I remember yelling "lions tho" at vegans, so I'm not pointing fingers)

I just want to raise awareness about the horrors of animal agriculture and it's knock-on effects to the planet. And that we have a choice, and the power to change the world. We don't need to wait for governments or laws, we can make this change now, ourselves and there are no down sides, only wins.

It's just a matter of changing a few ingredients

Dogs = good
Trying to make me eat hummus instead of butter? = bad?

Idk, I don't think the two are as related as you imply. Either way, animals kill each other in nature all the time. You think if I didn't throw a lobster into a pot of water it'd die of old age? He'd probably get ripped apart slowly by a sea turtle.

^see how that doesn't sound like a conversation about abusing dogs anymore?

Post script: for the record, I believe the most humane way to kill a lobster is by driving a knife through the head quickly, NOT throwing it into the pot of water alive. I'm not for animals suffering, but I like eating meat and butter. The artery clogging is the animals paying me back. So it's all even.

3 Simple Life Hacks

BSR says...

You can magnetize a much bigger screwdriver with way less wraps of wire and way quicker. Use a little thicker wire and just one layer covering about 3 inches near the tip of the screwdriver. Then just quickly spark the wire ends on a 12 volt car battery and you'll have a very strong magnetized tip.

So anyway, turns out microchips are a good thing...

transmorpher says...

Too bad we don't extend this compassion to other animals. Namely the ones we choose to eat.
The refugee crisis is largely out of our hands, but choosing not to eat animals that feel the same emotions as this dog, is a decision we can make with every meal.
No you don't need meat or any other animal products to live a healthful life, and no it's not all salad and tofu

Godless – The Truth Beyond Belief

shinyblurry says...

Yes, Jesus is 1/2 human, but not the half by which our sin nature is passed down. The sin nature is inherited from the father and not the mother.

God is eternal. He is uncreated, having no beginning or end. In other words, He isn't subject to time, time is subject to Him because He created it. It's impossible to really wrap our minds around that, being finite creatures who are subject to time. It should then therefore go without saying that how an eternal being not subject to time deals with time is beyond our understanding.

Whether we are able to fully comprehend it or not, the important issue is that to God, Jesus' sacrificial death was justice for all sin. That is good news for us! That means that we can be forgiven and receive eternal life.

I am also not sure why you are saying the infinite room idea is a fallacy; do you think this is a religious concept? This is a paradox postulated by mathematicians, not theologians:

"Hilbert's paradox is a veridical paradox: it leads to a counter-intuitive result that is provably true. The statements "there is a guest to every room" and "no more guests can be accommodated" are not equivalent when there are infinitely many rooms."

It is a logically valid idea according to mathematicians.

newtboy said:

Nope, you have some kind of misunderstanding. Jesus is at least 1/2 human, born of Mary, so totally guilty like the rest of us.
No, immortals, even demigods, do not somehow warp spacetime so they experience the entirety of infinity in every moment repeatedly. That's just silly mental gymnastics to make sense of the senseless and excuse the impossibility and contradictions of the fable.
Infinite space is not infinite time....and neither exists. More mental gymnastics, but this time for what? The infinite room fallacy just means hell won't overbook, not that someone can endure infinity in a weekend, no matter how magic pops is.
Leave the reviews of hell to those you relegate to it. You have no idea what kind of parties we're into. ;-)

Another School Cop Body Slams a Girl

greatgooglymoogly says...

That girl at the pool party in Texas, she wasn't slammed for not having a pass, but for refusing to follow instructions and leave the scene of a riot the cops were trying to control. The video here is really not defensible. She isn't fighting against the officer. As soon as he wraps arms around her to lift her up, he is in complete control of her body. Slamming her down serves only to injure and punish, not gain control of a dangerous person.

Star Citizen Alpha 2.6 - Star Marine Fanmade Trailer

RFlagg says...

The improvements overall in 2.6 is pretty good (much better frame rate among them), and Star Marine is fun enough. It actually is playable, though until 3.0, there isn't much to do in the Persistent Universe.

People give Star Citizen lots of flack for long development time and the like, but most developers/publishers wouldn't even announce they were working on the game until it was where Star Citizen is now. Most games are in development for a few years before they start showing off stuff, then give a year or two more on a game of this scope. The only other thing I can think of is CD Project Red's Cyberpunk 2077, which was announced before development really started in earnest (though they had a good team working on it when it was announced in 2013)... and that title won't be out until late 2017 or more likely 2018 (I'm not expecting more than a release window announcement in 2017 saying some quarter in 2018). Now to be fair, people aren't spending thousands on Cyberpunk ahead of release as they are with Star Citizen, though I think most people stopped at $60 tops, and there are valid issues/concerns with funding the way Star Citizen is funded, but I'll give it a chance. I'll dip back in after each major update... 3.0 or so is where it starts getting interesting, and it's nice seeing a developer be more open about what's going on while it's being worked on.

Come the end of 2017 or mid 2018, if we don't have Squadron 42 and most of the Protestant Universe, then I'll start having doubts. I'd expect it to be wrapped up and in maintenance mode with adding things like Elite Dangerous does by that point... and walking around in ED will likely take another expensive DLC.

#CreateCourage - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

L0cky says...

Yup, that's exactly how ads should be.

If your product is better or offers unique benefits, then by all means tell us; but don't tell some almost entirely unrelated story about some kid who stayed up all night wrapping presents for his mum because GIVE US YOUR MONEY.

If, on the other hand, you do want to convey a message or story - become a writer, filmmaker, painter, poet.
