Boys Choir Makes A Point - International Children's Fund

Second Life (Geek Talk Post)

chingalera says...

I created an account years ago when I was curious about the buzz and experienced an odd glitch. The first thing I did was walk off a pier and the I was standing underwater with no way to get back to the surface that I could find. My character was fine, and I got bored quick and logged off......Logged on about 2 years later out of curiosity again, and my character was still underwater standing beside that same pier!!

Oh and look man, don't feel offed because no one on the site will seem to respond to your character: Online paranoia, cliquish rules, etc. make any chat scenario unlike one in the world of flesh and blood...Call it human-interface nature or cyber-rules, I tend to label it developmental disability anymore
and trudge along my merry way. If people can't feel comfortable striking up a conversation with a stranger online from the comfort of their computer, well, they are probably equally as bad at it in the world of matter-manifest flesh.

bareboards2 says...

Another Amazon review.....

Alrights, I works at the bail bonds counter and mens always be taking my pens...and I'm all like, "What makes you think you can take my pens, I know you stressed trying to get your bro, dad, momma...whoever outta the clink, but I don't have like an unlimited number of pens here, so if you can't fills out your paperwork at the counter, and you know I already tole you that you can't, then you needs to bring your own pen" So I got these pens at the doller store and they all pink and purple and I even sprayed them down with Mariah Carey's perfume, the one in the pink bottle cuz the purple bottle smell like my aunt, the one who is the same age as me, and mens can't stand these pens, they never walk off with them anymore.

Bird Wars 2.0

legacy0100 says...

... Every weekend of this summer I went down to the Briton Beach area (next to Coney Island in NYC) which has a big Caspian-Russian/Ukrainian populace. Me and my friend try to arrive early in the morning in order to take full advantage of our day, because by lunchtime is when all the non-locals from other parts of the city start pouring in.

The beach is noticeably cleaner and quieter in the morning even when there are several people running about, generally getting a tan or going in for a quick swim. And as soon as 10:30am hits, locals start folding their beach towels and walk off, and you begin to see the non-locals and tourists moving in. You start to hear loud music, you hear vendors selling water and beer, cellphones and loud laughter.

Over the past few months I've noticed a major difference between beach habits of locals and non-locals, which is that non-locals usually brought big coolers filled with food and drinks, while as the locals didn't. Those who were hungry usually had some fruits or a piece of pastry in plastic bags, and left no crumbs on the sand. Meanwhile the non-locals were having a feast, opening bags of chips, fried chicken and what have you, and the seagulls start showing up.

When we arrive at the beach in the morning there were maybe 1 to 0 seagulls to be seen. In the afternoon, packs of seagulls with about 4 or 5 seagulls per pack were roaming around on different areas of the beach. Then you start hearing such complaints from these people as "Omaigawd this beach is so dirty" or "F*cking seagulls, they're everywhere!" This goes to tell you that it isn't just the seagulls that are annoying, it's the people who lack proper beach etiquette that ruin it for the rest of us. Tourists are bad, but it's mostly the non-locals coming in from other parts of the city that are the worst, because they 'think' they know the city. They mouth off the tourists coming outside of NYC, and yet to the locals of Brighton Beach, the non-local New Yorkers are the most annoying rats of all.

Anyways, don't bring food into the sand people. Goto a deli and eat it at the boardwalk or something.

Craig Ferguson speaks on the Aurora Colorado shooting

artician says...

I love Craig Ferguson. Seems like a very good man.

The Colorado thing was terrible. Dude opened fire on a large number of people in an enclosed theater, suffocated them with tear gas, and killed as many as he could. That is very terrible thing.

I wish we could actually discuss the issues, instead of instantly condemning them. The immediate reaction by any media representative is "I can't understand why this happened". I don't feel like you can say that while living in a country that continues multiple wars on many innocents around it, or lets extremely, albeit nonviolent, dangerous criminals walk off scot-free with half the countries money, or has nearly-daily events like this occur in the same week.

It's just stupid to think people have no reason to go insane while living here. It's wrong to take out that insanity on innocent people, but you can't say you don't understand why it exists while wearing your horse-blinders during so many other atrocities.

The most effective way to get a red card...

Yogi says...

Dude you missed the part where the player who took the red card was given one himself. Refs usually carry two, he pulled the second one out and gave it to him immediately. The player literally broke into tears and CRIED while walking off the pitch, great day for Portugal. BTW the first player fouled is Fabio Coentrao, he plays for Real Madrid now.

What was the first vid you ever posted to VS? (Happy Talk Post)

pumkinandstorm says...

The first vid I ever posted was:
http://videosift.com/video/Somebody-That-I-Used-To-Know-Best-Cover-Ever

It's the song "Somebody That I Used to Know" performed by Walk Off the Earth. I was hoping to post the original video, (which had already been taken), so instead used this one (their live performance on Ellen) which I thought was the next best thing. I must thank @Boise_Lib for putting quality on it, otherwise I might still be a probie now.

For me it was the caesarean alien abortion that took 30 seconds, ended with some metal staples following wihch she just hops up and walks off.
Pretty sure abdominal muscles don't work that way...

And then she's jumping around and abseiling!

I think the most insulting thing was this supposed deep theme of creation and religion. Which basically amounts to a few scenes with Shaw fingering her crucifix. Really that's it.

If you want that sort of sci-fi where they actually spend time on such notions then 2001, Contact or similar are much better.

I'd really like to see a sci-fi film consistent in its own universe so when you inevitably have to suspend belief it's easy to do so.
