Michael Jackson's Magnum Opus

This is lip-sync people. It is standard practice for a high-energy dance show to be lip-sync'd, and every major performer who dances while singing has done lip-sync, so it's not a put-down. The only people who never lip-sync are the "stand there and sing" kind of performers.

The biggest give away is that you never hear him breathing. The second biggest is that he maintains a steady volume throughout the performance instead of fading in and out while moving. And third, he seems to maintain a steady voice while jumping up and down, which simply isn't physically possible.

Again, this is not meant as an insult, every performer at this level does lip-sync or uses supporting recorded vocals of some kind. It's much more obvious when they don't.

Edit: Compare with this live performance of Thriller. You hear him break off the long notes to breath as the song gets going, and the volume shifts slightly depending on where the mic is. You can even hear notes that are slightly off pitch if you have a good ear. In my opinion, it's the little imperfections that make a live performance human and really draw you in.

From the title I kinda thought that the band themselves were surprised they just player "Thriller" as it was "unexpected"!

Sorry but i have to agree with lucky760. I didn't really see anything here that i even liked, and on top of that, we never got the promised thriller re-enactment. Plenty of mistakes, and it just looked bad because everyone was getting involved instead of (as suggested earlier) 1 person doing it, everyone else oblivious other than the 1 person doing it.

I like to think this wasn't planned or rehearsed at all but just what happens when you walk through the hallways of a French community college with a camera and Thriller playing.

Good camera work and coordination by everyone. Must've taken a lot of planning.

However it would have been better if they'd pulled it off like the Lib Dub video where everyone sort of seemed oblivious except for the current 1 singer (now I understand why they planned theirs that way). The other thing is I take exception to the title of the post because this is not a reenactment of Thriller, just a lip sync. I kept eagerly waiting to see everyone line up and start doing the zombie dance. Alas, I was disappointed.

Hasn't it been previously established that these inmates are basically coerced into this and that life in this prison is quite brutal?
